Brandon Inge Death Watch - 4/26/2012 R.I.P.

  • Inge's WAR last year -.06 So if Worth is an average player, The Tigers would win another game.

    BTW Inge's offensive WAR was -8... His defensive WAR was only .2. By this stat he was nothing more than an average glove at 3b.

    You mean to say that since they are currently on the hook for $6M, the Tigers might try to trump up his value in hopes that another club might share in his salary burden (over the veterans minium)?

    Inge racked up all those WAR because he started at third base for 2/3 of the season. No one expects him to get that sort of playing time this year.

  • Inge hit .333 on Wed. going 1-3 including an RBI line shot double to the gap. He's as good as starting opening day with a performance like that.

  • I like this article....no bones about it, they have no choice. I think at this point Dombrowski is looking for the easiest exit strategy....doesn't appear there is an easy one.

    The way things go with Inge, how much you want to bet he goes on a tear these last few games with a few bombs and RBI's, etc., some diving def. plays and makes it almost impossible to cut bait.....that is the kind of drama that always happens with Inge.

  • Thought this quote from Inge from yesterday's Lynn Henning column was worth reposting. He my be the most delusional player in all of pro sports.

    "But one thing I've made clear is that I don't make decisions off one bad year. I'm kind of tired of selling myself short. And I know I'm a lot better hitter than other guys out there."

    Two obvious questions for Brandon - how many bad years do you make decisions off of? Because you've had so many. And....can you name even one other non-pitcher that is a worse hitter than you are (and Gerald Laird doesn't count)?

  • Well, something's a brewin' in Lakeland - no Inge in the lineup and Oliver was sent down to AAA today. Leaves 5th starter for Below, Smyly, or outside the organization. Situation could be resolved soon.

    Not sure it tells us much on Inge. Even if he makes the team he isn't going to be a starter. Cabby and 3rd and Raburn has easily locked down the starting 2B job this Spring. Today's lineup is the opening day lineup minus Cabby will be back for Kelly. It's still Inge vs. Worth for final utility role. The most telling thing about today's lineup is that Dirks over Thomas now looks like a done deal.

  • It isn't Inge's fault and he doesn't deserve to get cut! Last year he just wasn't hitting the ball hard enough, but he was getting it good. This year he is hitting it hard, just right at the fielder. It's just bum luck. Combine this with the fact that pitchers for some reason pitch to him as if he were Babe Ruth, instead of giving him meat balls up the middle like he deserves, our community is going to get SCREWED out a great guy who loves his kids. He's still a youngster. I'm sure if he goes north with the team, he'll be back to hitting .300 with 30 bombs in no time flat.

    I bet the vast majority of "downriver trash" hate Inge at this point.

    The only time I read/hear irrational Inge love it's coming from people making fun of Inge and his fans. He is semi-obnoxious and he does have some fans, but I don't think his fans are talking about him hitting .315. They probably just think he's a good bench player.

    Keep knocking down those straw men, though. Nothing else to do until April 5 anyway.
