Breaking Jim Bollman as new OC

  • TheDudeAbides said...

I've got to say I'm pretty disappointed. OSU people hated this guy.

OSU fans also cheered when Tressel was carried off the field last year before the Michigan game.

How would you describe his responsibilities during that period then? And what grade would you give his performance for said duties?

It is an unknown. He definitely had control of OL development, so that can be directly critiqued. Yet as far as an OC, he was involved in game planning and made suggestions on plays. How much, who knows other than Ohio State coaches? As with all things, the man making the final decision accepts the blame. Since Bollman did not have final call, I don't really know and therefore I have not made a conclusion in his years before 2011. Yet from all reports Tressel was the main decision maker on offense while letting his DC make defensive decisions (he is directly quoted to that effect in the second article I wrote).

Lol at those thinking we might get "elephant hunter" as OC. This is a career 7-5 program type of move.

What's your definition of an elephant hunter and how many of these guys exist on the assistant level? Do you have any suggestions or just comaining?

    lol

I'm sure Terry would agree with you. Nice post. Want to name those other 100 OCs?

Well he was ranked 107th in offense, so there's 106 other OC's I'd rather have.

Out of everyone complaining I have asked about other OC's they would have wanted instead. Not one answered. Weird.

Actually, yeah. I've been down here for the last decade and understand the fury Buckeye fans have for Bollman. Our hatred of Roushar paled in comparison.

  • tOSU rushing stats the past few years under Bollman. Seems like he ran a pretty good OL.

    2011 - rushing offense
    4.4 yards a carry (4th in the B1G - 4th in total rush yards)

    2010
    5.2 yards a carry (4th in the B1G - 4th in total rush yards)

    2009
    4.5 yards a carry (4th in the B1G - 3rd in total rush yards)

    2008
    4.6 yards a carry (4th in the B1G - 3rd in total rush yards)

    2007
    4.6 yards a carry (3rd in the B1G - 4th in total rush yards)

    2006
    4.6 yards a carry (2nd in the B1G - 3rd in total rush yards)

    2005
    4.7 yards a carry (7th in the B1G - 3rd in total rush yards)

    1. Beanie Wells was pillow soft. He's the most overrated RB in recent memory.
    2. Tressell called the plays, the rhythm complaint falls on him. And Pryor free lancing 50% of the time didn't exactly add to the flow of the offense. He could break a run, but when your 10 teammates have no idea what you're doing (and it isn't the called play), that will happen.

Guy, I'm not gonna debate anyone on this. I'm not trying to stick it to your fanbase. The OSU Oline under Bollman was a mess. Yes, Tress made did the play calls but most of the disfunction of our offense was due to a confused and very inconsistent OL. I remember watching other Big Ten teams OLInes (MSU included) and asking myself "why can't OSU have an Oline like this". Also, ask yourself, why hire an OL coach who has little experience calling a game, is bad talent evaluator and recruiter and sat in cush job and despite all of OSUs success no one EVER came calling to try to lure him away from OSU? I'm done trying to convince...you guys will find out soon enough.

Oh no a brand new outta the box QB and a totally green in over his very young and inexperienced interim head coach couldn't put a good offense together? Is it really surprising given the circumstances? And how do you know he'll be the OC and that staten or Salem won't run it?

I went through it the speculation thread. I had a pipe dream of the school giving up enough money for Baylors QB/ OC. If not, Tedford or Willingham would have been inspired hirings. And Salem would have been a fine promotion. If we just got rid of Gill, why bring in someone else who doesn't care about recruiting.

What was MSU's defense ranked in 2009? Would you like all of those DC over Narduzzi right now?

You can't judge a coach off of 1 year in a shitty situation.

Well, consider that our offense had a ton of personnel issues last year (new QB, new receivers, tons of OL injuries) but everyone just wanted to run the coordinator out of town ...

Your crying was legendary on the old board. And like a typical phish fan, you're an arrogant, know nothing bag of dicks. You and jack fit perfectly. His inherent frat guy douchiness mixed with your putrid music taste makes for one pathetic caricature. It is noble however to see the CSB bond so quickly in denouncing a hire that hasn't been confirmed yet. The sky is falling crew never takes a break. lol

"Bouncing round the room" omg lulz

lol This is precisely the kind of nonsequitur meltdown that's so predictable from you..

You don't even realize that i was disagreeing with jack passion, You're just a nonthinking douche bag who posts with blind rage in 99.9% of your posts.

"Sky is falling crew"? I haven't even posted my opinion on the Bollman hire yet. Good grief lol

The bouncing around the room reset was funny, though. Decent effort.

Sure, you've got 2011. But the successes and failures of that season is just as difficult to assign to one person as 2001-2010. Sure, everybody wants to put it on him, but that's not fair given what was going on and the talent that had left (both coaching and players) and everyone knows it.

As for the underperforming OL, I strongly disagree, as morgarc pointed out, tailbacks at OSU did quite well behind his OLs.

Let's go by team ranking ypc...

    2011 - 45
    2010 - 15
    2009 - 43
    2008 - 34
    2007 - 34
    2006 - 25
    2005 - 24
    2004 - 63
    2003 - 94
2002 - couldn't find ranking, but 4.3 ypc which would be around 50-60 or so
    2001 - 4.1 ypc, probably around 60-70

The big uptick coincides with Ohio State going with a dual threat QB (2005). You can draw your own conclusions. Here are sacks given up ranking...

    2011 - 118
    2010 - 46
    2009 - 57
    2008 - 85
    2007 - 32
    2006 - 20
    2005 - 21
    2004 - 51
    2003 - 88

Seems pretty mixed for a team of Ohio State's caliber. Some good years, some poor years, and a lot of mediocre years.

don't forget that in college 4.9 ypc lands you right in the middle of the pack.

I guess Leveon sucked this year then cause he averaged 4.7

That was always the big question. Was it JT or JB? I guess we'll find out.

Most schools recruit regionally. But the position coaches have a say in who is recruited and set the basis for their targets that meet their model.

Looking over Rivals and it looks like most of JB's recruits/targets were OL
