Breaking Jim Bollman as new OC

  • buckeyerevenge said...

He can recruit but then turns 5 star linemen into pillars of putty.

5 star offensive linemen, what are these you speak of?

Being called a sunshine blower is not insulting to me and I'm proud to be one.

Trust me when I say that 99% of Ohio State fans who come over here are not trying to troll on the topic of Jim Bollman. We honestly can't believe Dantonio would do this.

Even during the successes we had under Tressel, Bollman's offensive lines were the absolute ban of our existence.

From 2006-2011 (second half of his tenure) Ohio State had three offensive linemen in total drafted.

Kirk Barton in like the 7th round, Doug Datish in like the 6th round and then Mike Adams in the second round in his last year.

Bollman will be given 'credit' for the Brew Crew (Adams, Brewster, Shugarts) but only one of those guys even got drafted. Alex Boone was another five star guy who didn't even get drafted under Bollman's "tutelage". Not to mention that the Brew Crew came to OSU to play together because Adams & Brewster had OSU ties and all three loved Tressel.

There's a large school of thought that Bollman & Doc Tressel were on the staff for so long because JT liked spending time with them and he could make up for any of their deficiencies.

Also, all playcalling credit during the good years went to Jim Tressel, with a healthy assist to now-Purdue Coach Darrell Hazell, who was the biggest spark to help Tressel take advantage of Pryor and his running skills. There's a reason Hazell went from "Assistant Head Coach/WR Coach" to Kent State's top job while no one in their right mind even interviewed Bollman for a head coaching job in his decade in Columbus.

Just mind-bendingly stupid if he actually is hired. Sparty deserves so much better than a guy who is a lazy recruiter, sub-part OL coach and fantastically brutal playcaller.

LOL- thanks for the heads up.

    NO.

NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO.

He didn't think Taylor Decker was Ohio State caliber, but apparently Tommy Brown and Chris Carter were? If he is your OC then you don't get Drake Harris, because someone will remind him that OSU's leading reciever in 2011 had exactly 14 catches.

Here's what I've learned from OSU fans in this thread:

    * Bollman sucked and was the root of all of OSU's offensive problems, even though he sucked so bad Tressel wouldn't actually give him any responsibilities.

    * OSU had one of their best decades ever while Bollman was there, but that was totally in spite of him. OSU would have won 12 national titles during that 11 year period if the guy who didn't make play calls wasn't not running the offense.

    * Bollman ruined the 2011 offense, which would have otherwise been incredible after losing their decade long head coach, promoting an unqualified assistant to the top job, suspending star players and going on probation.

You guys may not be good at following NCAA rules, book learnin' or logic, but you're damn good at scapegoating. What tRCMB did to Roushar looks like child play compared to this.

Even though I'm not excited about the hire. He's still better than Roushar.

What, exactly, makes you think he's better than Roushar?

I don't see how anyone who blamed Roushar for our offensive performance in 2012 can be anything but disappointed by the Bollman hire. Same guy, different name.

He had the responsibility of OL coach.. and our OL was awful.

If you are so stoked about his resume, perhaps you should look into hiring Tressel's QB coach too?

I'm going to go ahead and trust a fan base that has followed him for a decade more than a gas bagging, knuckle dragger like you who is totally uninformed and has no facts other than blindly following a coach who let Roushar light our 2012 Season on fire with a gas can and matches. You have no information or facts so quit defending it until we see what happens on the field. People are entitled to their opinions.

No. It has been confirmed by multiple sources that he will be joining the staff. The latest is BTN's Tom Dienhart, but he said he does not know in what capacity he will be working with. I'm gonna guess either OL coach/Co-OC

BTNTomDienhart: Source at #Purdue confirmed to me that Jim Bollman has left for the #Spartans staff.

Can you explain to me why he is the same guy? Is it the Big ten titles that make him similar? The national championship? The 4 and 5 star linemen? The 5 yards a carry for running backs? Or are you just talking out of your ass?

I'm not taking sides here, but I do find it funny that in the same paragraph you tell him his opinion is invalid and he's uniformed, and then conclude by saying people are entitled to their opinions. lol

lol Or you can trust Dantonio who brought our program back from a laughing stock to a contender in the Big Ten. Fucking moran.

Either trust Dantonio, or claim to trust him and yet complain about ever staff decision he makes.

First of all, I wasn't on Team Fire Roushar. I think there were many, many things wrong with our offense in 2012, and that the best solution was time. So in that sense, I'm indifferent about the Bollman hire. We replaced Roushar with someone extremely similar, and the continued individual development of our QBs, WRs, and OL will be what makes or breaks our offense in 2013.

Why do I think he's the same guy? Because I watch Big Ten football with functioning eyeballs, that's why.

He hardly recruits.. those 4-5* linemen would be more of a thank you Tress/Fick/Hazell.. our main recruiters.

Our OLs were god awful, but our RBs had talent, hence the 5YPC.

giving him credit for B10 titles and MNC is laughable at best, want to hire the waterboys too?

Yes, yes, yes, go after us to your heart's content, but please keep this in mind:

Right now our complete and utter disbelief at Bollman getting the OC job is the exact same complete and utter disbelief that every Sparty fan had last year when they heard that Arkansas hired John L. Smith to keep a preseason top 10 team together for a title run.

    Yeah, its exactly like that.

Also, if you like what Jim Bollman has to offer, then I highly reccomend you go check out Andrew Siciliano's CV as well: He was our QB coach under Tressel whose only experience was splicing video before he was inexplicably hired for yet another job that Tressel actually micromanaged himself.

So go back to mocking me, its cool. But please remember that I'm NOT trolling. I'm NOT fearful of what Bollman could bring to the Sparty table. I DO feel legitimately bad for you guys that you're stuck with him.

There's only one school I would wish him upon and unfortunately they accidentally added "State" after my wish.

Seriously - that was an explanation from one Nut above.

Please, Spartan fans, take what these guys are saying with a huge grain of salt. They have a Ron Jeremy sized hard on for this guy that makes tRCMB's for Roushar look like an Asian midget.

    Fletch

  • The guy is terrible and lazy.

His Olines were manhandled by inferior talent. Our Oline this year with half the same guys were 100X better.

    Never called the plays.

Tress kept him on his staff? Tress had some chump from Youngstown State who never had a real football job as his QB coach. If you are a friend of Tress that is all that matters.
