No. Recruiting is one of his biggest weaknesses and one of the key reasons Meyer fired him immediately when he came on board as our head coach. The most common word I used to hear from program insiders to describe his recruiting and overall work ethic was "lazy".

I'm absolutely appalled that Dantonio hired the guy. The only year at Ohio State where he was actually the play-caller was 2011 (prior to that Tressel was our offensive coordinator & playcaller in reality). Look up our offensive statistics that year if you dare -- in fact you guys probably remember the game where you beat us 10-7 where you guys probably set a sack record against us. Aside from his incompetence as an OC / Playcaller, his OL development is almost as bad. I've never seen a coach take more talent and do less with it than Jim Bollman. I'm sorry that you guys will now have to deal with him eating into your overhead. He was fired from Ohio State, went to Boston College where their run game actually got worse under his tutelage than it was before he was hired, and then he was fired following that single season (2012), hired at Purdue briefly and now moving to Michigan State.

    Good luck guys.

    Jesus fucking christ!

You guys will need to annually put out a top 10 defense to win under Bollman.

You don't want a Bollman offense ever and I mean ever having to play from behind.

You guys should have kept Rousher. Seriously, he even flamed out this past year at Boston College.

Fletch: Tressell called the played from 2001 -2010. Bollman called them in 2011, the 6-7 season.

Sounds like tRCMB take on Roushar.

2011: Highest scoring offense in MSU history, but it had nothing to do with Roushar. It was all Cousins, Cunningham, Martin and Bell.
2012: Bad offense, but it had nothing to do with a mediocre (at best) first year starter at QB, 4 new starting WRs, and a decimated OL. It was all Roushar's fault.

    tOSU on Bollman:
2001-2010: The 7 B1G titles, 8 BCS games, 5 BCS wins, 2 National Title appearances had absolutely nothing to do with Bollman.
2011: NCAA sanctions, major off the field distractions, lame-duck interim head coach, true freshman QB: Offense only sucked because of Bollman.

I'm not a big fan of this hire, but I'll give Dantonio the benefit of the doubt and see what Bollman can do before I get worked up over it.

Because the salaries are public and you can simply compare them by looking.

Can you post them please? I can't seem to locate this info.

  • I find it very odd that people are surprised by this? Coach Dantonio's personality is about loyalty and trust. The names that where being thrown around for this job by the writers on this website where just stupid and ignorant and had no merit to them at all. I said in the first thread about OC candidates that Bollman would be hired. MD was obviously going to hire a guy that he has had a close working relationship with. If it was a position coach than he might have gambled on a guy that he didn’t have any connections to, but as a coach that is in charge of the entire offense he was going to pick someone familiar to him and his overall philosophy. Is it a "sexy" hire...nope, is it a good hire not for me to say at this point, but come on its not a surprising hire.

Slight difference, 2011 was the only year Bollman was the true offensive coordinator. Prior to that, Tressel called the plays and designed the offensive gameplan.

Whoever made RonP and Jim Bollman OCs in the #B1G must really want to see Urban Meyer dominate.

    Tony Gerdeman ‏@GerdOzone
Actually, the Jim Bollman hire makes perfect sense when you consider that Dantonio's main goal is to beat Michigan.

What is the actual proof? Other than "Tressel is a micromanager." HCs AREA INVOLVED HEAVILY in game planning -and I'd bet Fickel struggled to function in the same capacity as Tressel did in working with his OC....but that doesn't mean this guy automatically sucks....

Don't know but it will be a prerequisite for you to even have a chance.

Your OL is about to become the weakness of your team. He recruited two OL in a three year period at Osu. For the last decade OL was the worse position at OSU because Bollman was so dam lazy.

After Urban came in and fired him, we got two two commitments from two four star tackles in Kyle Dodson (prev committed to Wisconsin) and Taylor Decker (had committed to ND) who were BOTH from Ohio. Both said they weren't recruited hard by Bollman.

This is the guy you just hired, someone who was about to let two four star left tackles leave Ohio.

    AlphaBuckeye06

  • I'm holding out hope that Bollman is coming over as the OL coach and Salem (or Warner) being elevated to the OC with Staten taking over RBs (or Salem taking over QBs if Warner is the OC).

I love Coach D, and I trust him, but this hire (if true) is puzzling.

Bollman is Roushar Part II (in a Caddyshack sequel way, not Godfather way).

Because Boston College is a real easy program to have success at.. lol Running a D-1 offense with two star white kids from Connecticut and Mass against Va Tech, FSU, Clemson, UNC, etc. is not easy.

We will have a Top 10-15 defense under Narduzzi.

Other than that I agree, this hire would be pretty lame and it would seem like Dantonio is timid when it comes to "breaking ranks" for a hire.
