Bret Beilema is a whiney B!tch

  • wwldd said...

There is no indication that Bielema is simply mad about losing soft commit recruits. He has recruited kids who had given verbal commitments to other schools this year and in past years. He will most likely continue to do so.
The fact is that the Big 10 does things a certain way. A way that when Tressel was the OSU coach OSU fans would have supported. Fact is Urban is different. Seems like the internet OSU fans are all in. That doesn't mean the rest of the Big Ten is.

I lived in Columbus for 4 years and the OSU fans and radio stations hated him and the way he did things. He became their coach and now it is funny that he overrecruits and steals guys.

    Meyer loves the attention.

Exactly, I'm sure they thought he was the devil years ago. And that's fine, I don't blame them for buying in, getting excited and sticking up for their new guy. That said, it would be in everyone's best interest to take a step back and think about what is best for the long term goals of the conference.
I think that doing things a right way is a big part of those goals.

face it, no one is complaining about recruiting a committed kid by another school. Meyer did more than that

    And that was what?

I don't know, but meathead publicly stated that not only did he do something illegal, but the he called meyer personally and confronted him on it.

Direct quote from press conference transcript:

QUESTION #22: Is Urban Meyer’s hiring changed recruiting in the Upper Midwest and in the Big Ten?

BIELEMA: Well, I don’t think it, I hope it doesn’t change. I think the potential to change has been there. And, there’s a few things that happened early on that I made people be aware of that I didn’t want to see in this league that I had seen take place at other leagues, other recruiting tactics, other recruiting practices that are illegal. And I was very up front and was very pointed to the fact. I actually reached out to Coach Meyer and shared my thoughts and concerns with him, and the situation got rectified.

But the one thing I love about this league, it was kind of funny, when I was a younger coach, I was offered a job in another league, right? And this coach, I was working for $175,000 for Coach Alvarez, and he asked me what I was making, and I said I was making $175,000. He goes, ‘how many year contract?’ I said, ‘zero, just a one-year contract.’ He goes, ‘I’ll offer you $350,000 in a four-year contract.’ And I’m like, ‘ah, I don’t think so. You know, it’s not, money is not important to me at this point. I kind of want to stay where I’m at in the Big Ten. It’s got great values. I’m at a great place, a great institution.’

He goes, ‘okay, I’ll make it $450,000, and I’ll give you a five-year guarantee.’ I said, ‘okay, now I’ve got to talk to you.’ But it did make a point of interest to me. I didn’t tell you that I was just joking. But it was a real offer that was out there. And he said to me, ‘you know what the difference between the Big Ten and this conference is?’
And I said, ‘no.’ He said, ‘in the Big Ten, everybody tells on everybody. In our conference, nobody tells on anybody.’ And that made a huge comment to me. And I’ve been very cognizant of that, encourage our coaches to play by the books, to do things in a certain way. If you have to lie, cheat, or steal to get someone here, it doesn’t make a great point once you get them here about how you’ve got to handle them.

So I think that’s the point that I’ll take moving forward. Our league is based on certain values that we’re going to hold to be true. And, you know, if you don’t hold to those things to be true in our conference, well, you’ll be held accountable.

Meyer ran as fast as he could away from the SEC where 2 Big 10 style coaches came in and introduced smash mouth to the SEC and have been dominating ever since. Meyer and Florida was falling behind Bama and LSU even though he was recruiting stud classes. Now SEC schools look to the hot bed of the coaching tree (OH-Pa) to find their coaches to lead and direct their great athletes. They say "screw the spread". Look at Spurrier. Totally left behind. Meyer will do well at OSU but not as well as Tressell did unless he learns quick and adapts to Big 10 style football.

Most of what you say is true, but I'm not so sure about his recruiting stud classes. His success was w/Zook's kids and when those kids were all gone things started heading south. consider the guy's entire career, he comes in wins with the previous coach's players and then takes off. He wasn't at BGU or Utah long enough to have to live entirely w/ his recruits, and when his recruits took over at UF, he got sick.

Just when I thought my disgust for the SEC could not be any stronger.....

Screw the SEC, I don't honestly think they should be associated with NCAA sports.

Delaney will tell him to not embarrass the conference against TCU and then come back and cry. I am still so pissed at you guys for not kicking his fat ass in the champ game that was yours.

Most people do not want to admit it but all coaches were recruiting committed players all season.

Hoke was recruiting the same PSU guys that Urban did

Dantonio was recruiting Adolphus Washington and Kyle Dodson

Lets face it guys it happens. People are just making story out of something because they lost the commits.

No, even Bielema isn't moronic enough to cry about recruiting someone else's verbals. It's about real infractions, and you can hide your head in the sand if you want, but your new guy will turn out to be dirtier than the one you heaved over the side. Next set of sanctions will really screw you up.panic

You have no idea what Dantonio and Hollis are doing regarding the creep from cbus.

This makes Dantonio look like a hypocrite. He was trying to recruit Dodson away from Wisky at the same time Meyer was.

This makes you look dumb, because it isn't about recruiting verbals to other schools.

You keep talking about this "unwritten rule" or gentlemens agreement but I don't buy it. I do believe that Coach D and Tressel had an understanding but to suggest it was conference wide is not fair. How does Big Ten teams competing for recruits hurt the league? Poaching committed recruits has gone on forever. Oh, I'm assuming Taco is banned and that's why you are posting.

The fact that both your teams could not sell out the conference championship 5 hours max from home, yeah lets not guarantee sold out bowl games

Yeah...MSU sold out their allotment, and bought up some of Wisconsins'

Actually, being at the game, the only section that wasn't full was the way upper deck in the Wisconsin end zone. Even the General Sales tickets in the upper deck on the sidelines were full.

That ticket stuff that was in the "papers" was all garbage.

Regardless it's not like OSU is going to have to worry about selling tickets to the B1GCG or a Bowl game this season.

  • Meyer is always going to flip recruits. He is obviously a good coach and better salesmen. But, one thing he is terrible at, is an evaluator of talent. He basically has admitted as much. He did an interview about this time a year ago (after he "retired") on SIrius radio about recruiting and signing day etc. He admitted that he often would look at whom he considered a good coach and see who they are offering. If you had an Alabama offer from Saban, it was all but guaranteed that you were going to be recruited by Saban. Meyer thinks certain coaches have a gift for evaluating talent, and if he sees them going after kids, he will go after them as well. He is a slime bag for sure, the NCAA didn't care that Tressel was cheating at OSU, do you really think the are going to care that Meyer is doing stuff that may be "unethical" but is not technically breaking rules?

Pretty fucking simple. Jesus, you're acting more like your team's head coach every day.

    TIMEOUT!

    1) So if Delaney suspends OSU players last year for clear violations, OSU was going to fire him? What the hell are you talking about?

    2) What the hell are you talking about? What you wrote makes no sense whatsoever. Delaney was stealing equipment and selling it?

    3) I'm not sure what point you're making here or what suspending OSU has to do with the acquisition of Nebraska...done with the intent of creating two divisions so there could be a championship game. So again, what the hell are you talking about?

So, I am confused, re: Pittman. A couple days ago, Meyer said that Pittman initiated the conversations with him. Now, it is the other way around. Which is it?

They got Pittman, whatever. We are fine, and will continue to be fine under this regime. Nice spin they have on things though.......impressive.

Yea, I'm sure it's very balanced. I'm not going to look at it, but I'll bet it's talking about the "gentleman's agreement" and how its dumb or never existed. I'll bet it states all is fair in recruiting, I'll bet it essentially calls Beilema and Dantonio babies. I'll bet it's dripping with insane arrogance in every word. Coming from OSU, it's also probably dripping with insane stupidity.
