Brother's wedding gift (watches)

  • My brother is getting married in a few months and I want to pick up a few higher end watches, one for me, one for him. I'd like to get similar watches, with maybe a different face so they appear to be a set.

Thinking Tag...anybody have recommendations? Thinking somewhere in the $1000 each range.

Or, is there something else that I should be looking at instead of watches for a wedding gift?

  • one good tag deserves another. after presenting your brother with the watch, you should tag team his fiancee to make sure she is compatible with the family.

  • Go automatic, not quartz. Don't buy a tag. If you want a "known" brand go omega or Breitling. If you really want to do something cool cop him a "microbrew" brand like a Halios Laguna or a Helson Shark Diver. Or something cool and unique like a Sinn U1.

  • Breitling for $1000?

  • Check out the H2O Orca. Microbrand automatic. Preorder is going on now. Looks really cool. I have a Prometheus and a Halios, both also microbrands. They offer some great stuff under 1k.

I would also back up the Sinn recommendation but you are going to be looking at 1500+ for those. I think the U1 will be my next big watch purchase.

  • His budget is a grand. There are no automatic Omega or Breirlings in that range. I'm not sure there's a TAG. Look at Hamilton and Tissot if you want Swiss and automatic in that range.

At that price range, you can't beat a Halios, Helson, or Magrette.

I have a Maurice Lacroix automatic that I'm very happy with. You might check them out.

  • I would go for Movado if you want something new. I got my bro that for his wedding gift (or maybe college graduation, can't remember).

If you want to go used, you can find decent rolex's or Omega's in that range.

If you spend that kind of money on a big gift for your sibling, can I be your sister?
