Bump If You Should Be Studying For Finals

no idea. probaby around 2/3 of the way through. if you killed it you probably were done

Idk if I killed it, but I basically don't spend more than 3-4 tries on problems that I have no idea how to do, so yeah I left probably around 9:25.

Best class ever. I took that class my sophomore year. It took my roommate and I over a month to figure out we both had it because we both kept sleeping through class or waking up with the alarm and saying "fuck it, I'm not going." Finally like a month in, we both got up, he went to breakfast and rode his bike, I walked there. I'm trying not to fall asleep and look down my row and my roommate is doing the same thing.

We both ended up 3.5ing the class without going after the midterm. Except for the final.

That class got me to start smoking again and also got me to go back to the doctor and start get adderall prescribed once again.. Regardless I dropped the class halfway through.

  • Productivity has hit a wall. I think I've matched by RCMB productivity of the last 2 weeks in the last hour alone. Just gotta get through 7:45 and a 10:00, and then I'm dragging my no-sleep ass to 'rama. Who am I seeing there? Identify yourself as an RCMBer and a pitcher's on me.

  • Warning, Rant incoming:

I get so annoyed by people that pull "all-nighters". Granted sometime it has to happen if you are really swamped or you mess up somehow. I found out I had an exam at 1020am my sophomore year at 11 the night before. It happens. But holy shit if you just do it out of the blue you are the biggest idiot on campus. You should prepare a few days before an exam and not just decide to go to the library at midnight the night before.

My friends that go wear it as a badge. "Welp, another all nighter for me!" is a consistent facebook status during finals. Well you are an idiot because if you studied before hand a bit more and got some sleep you would be way better off then studying for 10 hours and not concentrating at all. I have a friend that goes to the library and goofs off the whole time, but stays up all night and thinks they will get a 4.0 and is shocked when they don't. They told me they have gotten 3 hours of sleep in the last 72 hours. Not only will they not retain any information they try and learn at 4am, but they will forget simple things they already know because they can't concentrate and there body will have a hard time functioning to even get to class.

So ridiculous, how could anybody think that is a smart way of going about things. Unreal.

    Rant over.

I'm graduating with a 3.8 on Saturday and have done everything you claim "doesn't work" my entire MSU career. Not everybody operates the same way as you do, you're way is probably smarter but why does it matter? Some people will do things you find stupid and do better then you. Also, you're friends probably aren't wearing it as a badge, they're probably just telling you because it's what's going on with them right now and you guys are, you know, friends.

    Rant over.

Smart guy, but I bet if planned ahead a bit not only would you have saved yourself some sleep but might have had a 4.0 and not ended up looking like a piece of shit letting all your friends know how cool you are by studying at 3am.

Edit: There is a difference between "I need to study" and "look at me I'm studying". Everyone has these friends. It's the same friend that says "Hey I've got an interview for a job, did you hear, I've got an interview, INTERVIEW!" Great, but you don't have to remind me 3-4 times a day.

Well aren't you just special.... Haha im just giving you shit. Congrats that awesome. I graduate on Sunday with a 3.2 and studied my ass off for the past two years, didnt help much. I think it comes down a) focused to much on soccer b) put my fraternity before my school work c) I just suck at taking exams

We're all fucked. And we're fucked in the way you like to get fucked, not fucked in the way normal people like to get fucked

No problem with the shit giving, I was going to edit it out because it does sound so douchey, I was just making the point that while it may not work for Bailey, some people can execute that way. I admit that I don't intend to do it but often procrastinate to the point that I'm forced to. It hasn't cost me in college, and it hasn't translated over to work habits, just school. I have a final in 30 minutes and I haven't slept at all since I woke up at 9:00 am yesterday, and I feel fine Gonna wrap this up real quick, start drinking, and head to 'rama.

BTW, is your avatar club or varsity soccer? Are you on the squad?

I wish i could hit rama, I have my ISS exam tomorrow... Its of the varsity squad from our game against the Columbus Crew on St. Patty's this year. I'm (well was now) the student manager for the past 2.5 years

  • It is scientifically proven that sleep deprivation reduces working memory capacity, which in turn increases your susceptibility to false memory.

So while all nighters might "work" for some people, they are never as effective as actually studying ahead of time and getting a good night's sleep to get the benefits of properly encoding all you've learned.

  • I wish i was still studying for finals.

And I wouldn't dispute that, I was disputing that people "can't" retain any information at that time, or can't succeed that way. I'm fully aware that improving my study habits would have likely resulted in better scores, but I never improved them because what I was doing was working well enough.

  • If pulling all nighters work for you, then good. What ends up pissing me off is those who complain how hard the test was or how tricky it was, and get mediocre grades.

Then inevitably, for the next text, they make the wonderful announcement "I didn't even know this test was so soon! Time to pull an all nighter again." and the cycle repeats.

    THIS!!!!!!

9/10 people I know that pull all nighters are the ones who: a) skip class a lot. or b) Waste time doing other stupid shit instead of studying during normal hours of the day.

That's fair. I like to pull all nighters when I have morning exam because I don't sleep very well the night before anyway. It usually works out pretty well but when it doesn't its because I fucked up and didn't prepare well enough

  • Alright fellow RCMB students. Time to revive this thread with finals week looming in the near future. I have one last normal exam tomorrow morning that I should be studying for but you fuckers (and my general lack of motivation in life) are preventing me from doing so.

That said, I am graduating in 9 days. Bittersweet certainly but I'm pretty damn excited about it as of now. Also, I'm only taking one class this semester (I suck at scheduling, causing me to have to come back and take one more class...but hey, I got one more football season out of it, albeit a shitty one...) and the final is optional so as of roughly 2pm tomorrow I will be DONE! woot

Probably a stupid question as you morans likely have the same motivation levels as me, but anyone gotten a head start on finals studying? Any brutal ones coming up?

  • Meh... I have a final exam but it's in the middle of my priorities list right now.

I JUST finished my year long clinical, so I'm still celebrating that. But I have a final pathology paper which has to be done first, then a final exam, then two board exams. Gonna be a long next couple of months.
