CBC Hockey Night in Canada

  • I've always loved the hockey coverage on this channel, Bob Cole and Harry Neale do a great job, and of course Don Cherry and Ron Maclean. I'm a fan of Doc Emrick, being a St. Clair County guy, but I grew up watching the CBC coverage. Also, the old HNIC theme beats the hell out of the new one.

  • You can't even talk about the greatness of HNIC without mentioning the Leo Racicot commercials.

One that ran in the mid-late 90's. This one aired here during a Wings game in 1997. Seen on CBET Windsor 9.

I think it's actually mandatory that every small business owner in southwestern Ontario appears in their own television commercials.

I'm not embarrassed to admit I have that song on my iPod. It still is odd not hearing it to start the broadcast on CBC.

He had to have paid big bucks to have the lead in commercial to HNIC

  • A couple of years ago I was watching Hockey Night with a bunch of friends and when the 2nd intermission rolled around Don Cherry wasn't there. Right when one of my friends said "what the fuck, where's Don Cherry?" the camera panned over and he was passed out in a chair just off the set. The camera panned back and none of the other analysts said anything about it. To this day I can find no reference to the incident online, but everyone who was there remembers it as the most hilarious thing ever.

That's acceptable because Don Cherry only does the 1st intermission.

  • HNIC is amazing. Those who live near Windsor, like myself, are so privileged because of their hockey coverage. If a game is on NBC Sports Network I put that shit on mute. If it is on CBC I'm turning the volume up loud. Jim Hughson is fantastic among others, and Coach's Corner is just phenomenal. Don Cherry is spot on 90% of the time. They cater to a completely different audience than American channels and it shows

  • In addition to the personalities, Hockey Night in Canada strength has always been that it is one of the most professionally produced sports broadcasts to be aired by any network.

  • Don Cherry gets all the attention, but Ron MacLean is one of the classiest guys in sports media.
