Here are some "bold predictions" from CFN for you all to get pissed off at:
Michigan State Bold Predictions-
Phil Harrison:
Sparty will lose at least five games this year. Before you scoff at that bold and even rediculous notion, look at the schedule and then realize the reality that a new quarterback and skill position players will be getting their feet wet and finding their way early on. Defense can only take you so far. In the first five games there are games against Boise State, Notre Dame, and Ohio State--with a tougher than it appears game at Central Michigan also mixed in. From there on out, things don’t get much easier as the fighting Dantonios must go to Michigan and Wisconsin, and also clash with Nebraska at home. The Spartans haven’t had a tougher campaign since Helen of Troy was a fan. And that didn’t pan out so well.
Bart Doan:
Sparty better put his thick skin on. From B1G runner-up to barely making a bowl, Michigan State will lose 6 games this season. The schedule is a is a haunted house where they’re actually allowed to touch you with the chainsaw when they’re chasing you all over the maze (and blue). Early tilts against Boise State and Notre Dame will test a team that lost a ton of leadership and a ton of offensive skill. The remainder of the schedule sees a four game stretch vs Iowa, @ Michigan, @ Wisconsin, Nebraska. Losses will be as abundant as bad Katy Perry songs there. The Only difference is there’s no movie to torture everyone at the end of this rainbow. Sparty comes back down to earth in 2012.
Terry Johnson:
I agree with Bart and Phil - Michigan State will take a step back this year. However, the Spartans will still manage to field the nation’s best defense despite playing a brutal schedule. The defense returns eight starters from a unit that yielded a mere 2.8 yards per carry last season. Opposing teams will not have much more success in the passing game as the back seven returns virtually intact from a year ago. Unfortunately, MSU will break in a new starter at QB, which usually results in shorter fields for opposing offenses.

From last October:
Bart Doan – Michigan will win
There are two reasons Michigan ends the hex against State: Denard 2.0 and Greg Mattison.
Look, college football isn’t quantum physics, nor is it the NFL. When you have the best player on the field it means a lot. Denard is just that. The old mantra of “give it to our best player and let him run around the corner” applies here. I don’t want to hear about Jerel Worthy. He has as good of a chance of catching Shoelace as I do of shooting a 57 tomorrow at the local links. Yes, MSU has handled Robinson thus far, but that was with elementary coaching.
This year, the aforementioned Mattison is in the fold, leading a once sieve like Michigan defense to top 10 in the nation in total scoring D. That doesn’t just happen with improvement. It happens with firing Greg Robinson, whose coaching past includes absolutely nothing inspiring.
Mattison, on the other hand, is bringing these Michigan players knowledge of how to play like Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs, and Ed Reed. Michigan State hasn’t seen this group. They fly to the ball. They move all over the place pre-snap. They adjust by the possession, instead of by the season.
People have been skeptical of the Wolves all season, mostly because of Rich Rod’s routine 5-0 starts turned disappearing acts. That’s fair. It doesn’t mean it’s an iron clad argument. Michigan this year is different.
Statistically, which is more tangible, the Spartans are masters of giving up the short field. Being 112 in punting nationally isn’t exactly something inspiring against a team that moves the ball like a nail through drywall. On top of that, their vaunted rushing attack is 83rd in the country, which isn’t always an indictment on their backs or line as much as it is the inability of the passing game to scare anyone. Man coverage is en vogue against Michigan State. Just ask Notre Dame, who took them out back and read them their rights.
Michigan State has two things going for them: home field and a bye week. Little brother needs it. They look like a team that peaked last year, and is already losing ground in the recruiting battle to Michigan yet again in-state. Shoelace is too good at pulling the Wolves out of jams. And this year, the defense is too NFL for MSU to run away with it when things get tough. They struggle with defenses capable of giving them multiple looks pre-snap…such as Ohio State…and look terminally hung over, from the time they limped by Youngstown State to now.
Time to go get your shine box again, Sparty.

Honest question...
I know the defense was great last year and returns most of the starters but is it really regarded by most as being the best in the nation. Just hard to believe the way people talk about Alabama, LSU, etc.
Being called a sunshine blower is not insulting to me and I'm proud to be one.
