Cal ends IU-Kentucky series (SIAP)

  • Cal wanted it to be a neutral site game in Indy, Crean stuck to his guns and said it should be a home/home series. Here's Cal:

"We're not going to play," Kentucky coach John Calipari said Thursday. "We're not going to do a home-and-home. That's out. They don't want to play two games in the state of Indiana, which I'm fine with. There are a lot of people who want to play us."

"We were willing to play them both in the state of Indiana and they said no to that," Calipari said. "That means they don't want to play us."

Fucking douchebag piece of shit. He didn't seem to have a problem with it when IU sucked.

  • In response to Cal's posturing, his own AD couldn't even hold that line:

"I don't think he (Kentucky coach John Calipari) was really thrilled about going back to Bloomington, to be honest with you," Barnhart said

  • Cal does nothing that doesn't benefit his own program. Absolutely nothing. Had IU agreed to play the games at Lucas Oil, the inbred UK morons would have reliably turned half the place blue, as UK would have demanded half the seats. Crean wasn't interested.

It's kind of chilling in its simplicity. He's a dick, but he's consistent.

  • what's amazing is that this year's game would have been at KY. but he of course wants the exposure to Indy players, and you know damned well he won't go back to Bloomington after losing that game. to add the "they're afraid to play us" line at the end is so douchey I can't actually believe he said it, and I hate the fucker.

So much for the most anticipated non-con game of year.

  • Apparently it's OK with Cal to play in Bloomington as long as it's a guaranteed beatdown.

    Crean said NO!

Cal picked up his ball and went home.

Do I have that about right?

    SpartanInNH

  • I don't always back or buy everything Crean does, but he was 100% right on this.

It's refreshing to see someone inside college ball or the college hoop media that's willing to tell Cal no.

Cal wanted the games at Lucas Oil in Indianapolis.

Crean wanted the games on campus at both schools.

    Thus the problem.

Sooooo...it had nothing to do with the fact that Indiana beat them last time at Assembly Hall, eh? Just a business decision, nothing to do with stripping Indiana of a true home-court advantage? Ah. I see.

You don't happen to work for the University of Kentucky in the media relations department, do you?

    Take it easy.

Cal wanted half the gate, but he also wanted half the fans. That helps them win.

His own freaking AD, as noted above, said Cal didn't want to go back to Bloomington.

It's not an either-or issue. Going to Bloomington is bad for them competitively and financially. There's no upside.

So Cal said no. I think it's chickenshit. I never said I liked it.

  • Cal is a bitch, nothing to see here. It's a shame that this series will be coming to an end. Two programs geographically close, steeped in tradition...they should play every year, and it should be a home and home.

Watch, he'll try to pull this shit with Louisville and UNC next.

No way he can kill the Louisville series.

That's not a good point at all. Mandel should put a needle in his eye for that statement.

Mandel is a terrible basketball writer. He gets football. I think SI just let's him write basketball stuff to pass the winter. Zero perspective on the sport and makes lazy comparisons to football, like this one.
