Smooth jazz (not even mentioning this "funk") is awful and a complete embarrassment to the genre of Jazz.

Prudishness is hardly a term that I would associate with a musical form that can trace its roots (among others) back to the brothels of 19th century New Orleans. And I don't think I'm a jazz snob. Far from it. But that would probably be a more appropriate epithet.
What makes any of that jazz? The fact that there's a sax player in the band?

Because I listened to the songs in this thread, and looked up a few more on my own, and I haven't heard it. Jazz isn't about instrumentation. It's about rhythm and improvisation.
Imagine replacing Dulfer's sax with a guitar. Would you still think it was jazz? Go back and listen to "Lily Was Here" and pay attention to nothing but the rhythm section (if it doesn't drive you mad before the song is over). If that's jazz, then so is this, improvisation and all...
