Cat People

  • CORNER BLITZ said...

Yeah I don't get how cats are less maintenance either or how great it is that the cat shits in a box in your house

I don't have either, but know people with both. Dog people always have to find "dogsitters", take the dog for a walk, let them out, etc. I've never heard one of my cat friends ever talk about this.

Dogs are high maintenance, but people seem not to care.

The only way I would have either is if I move back into the country. I'm not an indoors animal person, because I grew up with animals outside. And if I do move to the country, I would have both running around my property.

I don't want hair, piss, shit, chewed up things, clawed things, etc in my home.

    Funny, that's why I don't have kids...

Cats are fantastic. Anyone who thinks otherwise hasn't spent any time around them.

  • I love dogs, I have two cats, honestly I don't see what the deal is with people hating one or the other, pretty stupid. The two I have are cool, they understand a few words, and pretty much sleep all day or try to get attention. When they go into crazy mode at night it can be pretty annoying and it sucks cleaning the litterbox everyday, but it's easier to me than walking a dog and cleaning up it's massive shits. You can also leave them alone for a few days too which is convenient sometimes. Personally I like their somewhat aloof personality, they're independent and don't need you for validation, they're on their own program.

I want to get a dog, but I'll wait until I can provide a good environment for it. Dogs are also great because you can use them for a purpose, and it's nice to be able to take them with you places. Cats serve a purpose too though, they kill mice/rats, I know my parents cat had cleared out the whole property of mice while neighbors continued to have huge problems as well as snakes and groundhogs at our other house. It might not be as important as guard/watch abilities that dogs have, but at least cats serve a purpose other than "pets".

Good post. That pretty much sums my situation (two cats) and experience up. The only difference is that I don't envision ever getting a dog. I don't like babysitting, stopping by once/twice in a work day to let them out, cleaning up 'massive shits,' and every other inconvenience. I like dogs when they're not mine.

  • I could echo about 10 other people in this thread. I grew up with both dogs and cats, but currently only have a cat. My habit of being gone 12+ hours a day, or deciding to stay in EL after a tailgate instead of going home is not really an ideal situation for a dog. I do understand that she spends most of her time plotting my doom, but all ill have to do is grab the laser pointer and any plans for world domination will be derailed.

You can leave a cat home for 1-3 days with no problems or more if you can just get someone to "check in" once a day, They don't need walked either. And that's usually the number one way people neglect their dogs.

People are fat and should walk too. Cats get everywhere so their is hair/hairballs/weird other shit in tons of different places dogs can't get to. Sifting through kitty litter < shovel shit in the backyard.

My cat doesn't get weird anything anywhere. I've had dogs and cats both.

My neighbor, after picking up every BM their dog makes wherever it makes it, has to wipe its ass.

The only things my cat leaves around that might fall into the "weird" category are:

    1. Random objects I leave sitting out that he considers a toy. This is my fault and they are generally undamaged when I find them. They are subsequently put away and out of reach.

    2. Partly-eaten bug carcasses. I live on the ground floor, so I get random bugs coming in. I will not complain about this, because I prefer cleaning up dead bugs over chasing down live ones any day of the week. Also entertains him and gives the little guy something to hunt.

We "had" mice in our townhouse. Came home and found one decapitated on the shoe mat and another upstairs in the entrance to our bedroom.

Set traps and caught four more and sealed the hole they were using to get in at the HVAC penetration.

  • Cats are pretty easy to train to use the toilet...my cat JJ taught himself...pretty the funny the first time I heard someone whizzing in the toilet, and saw my cat give me a WTF are you looking at!!! They make training kits to do this and I would highly recommend.

My cat is a bengal and they are incrediably active and will be part of everything you do. I walk him every night or let him out in the yard supervised. People crack up when they see me walk him, and I know it looks strange but I cannot let him outside without me. He hates all cats and will literally try to kill any cat he sees. He took a chunk out of a cat this morning that was in the backyard and I didn't realize it until my cat tackled it, sunk his claws into its hind leg and was being dragged up the fence by it, and took a huge hunk of fur out of the poor cat to boot.

My other cat, Cartman, (now with the ex) was a rescue Siberian and thankfully was at least 7 lbs heavier and could take the rough play from him...so if you want a Bengal, know that they play very rough with other animals, and are pretty vocal.

As does mine. She will meet me at the door when I get home and follow me everywhere. She will chase a toy rat, pick it up and carry it back to me. She'll lay on her side and if you move your hand back and forth over her she'll roll over. First with treats, and now with nothing, if you put your hand in front of her and tell her to shake, she'll immediately lift her left paw and place it on your hand. She also opens doors in the house by standing with both her front paws on the handle and either pushing or pulling depending on the door.

  • Dogs evolved from wolves because humans 'domesticated' the less aggressive ones. They have been evolved to look at humans as the pack leader.

Cats decided to live around humans because human crops provided food for rodents that became a major food source for cats.

In other words, dogs look at us as essential to their life and cats decided to 'put up' with humans because they can mooch off of us...

Yes I do. I am convinced that if I die in the house he would eat me, because he just loves licking me. So I must taste good.

I'm surprised more people didn't jump all over this comment. It's like an easy lob right over home plate. biggrin I'll just leave it "lucky cat."

As for me, I love pussies. I think maybe the OP has some sexuality issues. NTTAWWT.

  • dogs are better, but I've met cats I didn't mind. They have to be very interactive.

When I was young I chased cats around the house and wondered why they didn't like me. The dogs loved that stuff. A perception gulf was created then so I guess that's part of the way I feel about dogs vers cats.

Said goodby to several dogs I cared a great deal about--you never forget those things when thinking about getting another dog. That's the hard part. But dogs also need exercise and most are really destructive when they're young.

Also, I'm a bit allergic to cats, so to live with a cat the house would need to be very clean, and the cat would need bathing, combing regularly.

I just don't understand them. I'm biased because I'm a dog guy, but I just don't get cats, seems like all they do is ignore you and stink up your house. And single guy + cat = gay. NTTIAWWT.

I agree. Cat people, in my opinion, are slightly retarded at minimum.
