Trust me, when they get hungry enough, cats manage to figure out all on their own how to get down from a tree. It might take a few days, but the cat will come down all on its own in 2-3 days at most.

I'll present all options to the owners, and bring along my Remi 12 gauge. Just in case. The shot I have in the basement has a fairly narrow spray, so the tree shouldn't be too hurt.
