Cedar Point - New Coaster in 2013

  • It's about time.

But never, ever, ever believe "insiders" or rumors when it comes to amusement parks. They're almost never right. I agree the money they're spending will be for a new coaster but people have been speculating on a floorless or flying coaster since before MF was built in 2000. Let's all just wait and see when they officially announce it.

  • I don't think anyone ever rode Disaster Transport for anything other than a break from the heat and the darkness it gave you. It served its purpose.

The wing concept has been around long before x-flight at Great America. Magic Mountain has had X2 for awhile now.

Most insiders have been right. It has been known for months what Cedar Points new coaster will be. The new coaster will have the longest drop, run and length of its type. The coaster will have a 170 foot lift hill and will fly over the entrance to the park.

    Insiders where, exactly? Coasterbuzz?

It makes sense for them to build near the front/employee parking lot/around or in place of DT and it makes sense for them to go back to B&M coasters. This type of coaster definitely fits CP's billing of pushing the limits. Everything seems right for this I'm just saying wait for an announcement because they've thrown some curveballs in the past.

I was there a week ago. It was my best visit yet. My longest wait was about 20 minutes for the Gemini only because it was running on one cart too. I managed to get on every ride except for the ones that break my neck(mean streak and corkscrew). There are so many high quality roller coasters there it's crazy, but I will say I won't miss DT, that ride blows. What are your guys' favorite rides there sans Dragster, Millenium, Maverick, and Magnum? I love MaxAir and the WIcked Twister. Also think the Raptor is overrated, the line is always one of the longest in the park, but I don't enjoy it that much.

My neck/back hurt a week later after going on the mean streak. Fuck that coaster.

    I love the wicked twister

I know the forums on pointbuzz.com where talking about this long before it was released. It was just speculation but still impressive that they could tell the location and type.

  • They need to steal/upgrade from the Tatsu design from Six Flags Magic Mountain.

I think you're missing the point, modern rollercoasters need inversions, but they don't need to be inverted. Look at Maverick, that is one of my favorites now, and it didn't need to be super high or inverted. And the Z flight coasters aren't great because they share similarities to inverted coasters, but give more possibilities for inversions.

now see i specifically remember that Maverick was indeed inverted...i mean thats how he was able to conduct foreign relations mid-flight with the enemy MIG

well no point in doing this at cedar point. If you are going to run a tube in lake eire it might as well be painted brown and run above ground for all you are going to see out of it.

One time it ruined the rest of my visit at CP...when I walked off of it, it felt as if I was hit by a semi. Back and neck were sore for days. Not worth having that happen again, so I just choose to avoid it altogether.

bye bye bat infested DT :)

One good thing about that ride, AC on a hot day.

I remember when it originally opened as the Avalanche Run! (I like that name!)

Well, they had to tear down the Round-Up, Noah's Ark/Funhouse to put in Avalanche Run to begin with. It's pretty crazy to think back to when the Gemini was the most extreme ride in the park.

I vaguely remember being there as a very little kid when the Mine Ride was new. Edit: I was wrong, it was new before I was born.................

I remember the commercials on TV when they put in the Demon Drop lol The lines for that thing were crazy and didn't really calm down until Magnum was put in.

Those commercials were great. They made it sound as if that ride was death itself. Had this crazy chanting music, too.

Great find. It took me 3 trips to muster the balls to ride Magnum. I was a wimp as a kid. I just remember thinking how awesome Magnum was and would stand there for an hour just watching it. I remember the rumors that it was sinking into Lake Erie. Lol.

Another look back some Cedar Point rides that are no longer with us, but in this video, I've included some photos, video and rare audio of my favorites. Way back in the 70's, I used to roam the park with my tape recorder and take it along with me on rides (secretly hidden in a brown paper bag!) Because of copyright issues, I don't have a large collection of photos that I'm able to publish here. Everything you see and hear is from my personal collection of photos, fun guides, brochures, audio and video.

  • Ok this was brought up to me earlier in this thread, but I want to get some more perspectives:

I'm leaving today, planning on park tomorrow and possibly Sunday morning. Should I get the FastPass? One poster in this thread said yes, but I've seen a lot of testimonials saying it didn't matter much and that you still end up waiting forever and that it's not worth the $50/person or whatever it is.

    Thoughts?
