  • Neither has my uncle or cousin.

    But mannerisms and actions matter, and when they're combined with unfortunate but existant racial stereotypes, they can be loud warning signs for trouble and/or violence.

    But that's not what people are talking about. If I see a group of teenagers 20 deep of any race I keep an eye on them. But a lot of these messages are "Clear the Negros out of OUR area!" And I just wanted to point that out since everyone seemed to be agreeing about that. It's wrong, it's immoral, and it's unamerican.

    Lp is primarily white. Hispancs come to Fullerton beach and cause issues. There is an animosity that exists that they bring with them. Black kids at North Ave beach shot and killed a rival gang member last summer. Now (likely the same gang) is robbing and beating people in the same area.

    And? Each individual is an individual, it's the principle this country was founded on. Should I be subjected to beatings and segregation based off your actions? How does that make sense?

    So doesn't it make sense when you see 30 black teens at the Chicago redline stop all wearng a white t-shirt that maybe they are part of a gang? It's an observation, not racism. If I saw 30 white teens all wearing white t's I'd think the same thing.

    I live in the area and I know what is abnormal. 30 black teens hanging out at the redline stop is abnormal. I made sure to get out if there ASAP. I value my life. I don't need to try and make some racial statement by hangng out with those "fine young gentlemen."

    But a large group of young males acting likes assholes on the north side are usually looking for trouble.

    In the last two weeks, one has tried to push me off my bike, and another tried to throw a stick in my front wheel.

    I value my life and plan to do many things in it. Just because these sightless "live for today" pricks feel they have to stir the pot, doesn't mean I'm a bigot for profiling and avoiding them so they can't make me their victim.

    It's called street smarts. I may have less than them, but I have just enough to keep me and those I care about safe.

    I don't really care to engage in a gun control debate right now, but Washington DC allows conceal carry, and based on posts in this thread it doesn't seem to stop this exact same thing from happening.

    EDIT: Nevermind. I thought DC passed a concealed carry law, but apparently not.

    See Arizona for an example of a State that allows conceal carry and still is a pile of shit when it comes to crime.

    racist? how so? it's a fact that all of these beat downs are by a bunch of teenage punks from the south side, who happen to be black. it's more of a socio-economic thing than anything, but the fact white cops in chicago historically are assholes to african americans certainly won't help their case when they are caught.

    it's not that any african american in LP looks "out of place", it's anybody who is dressed like a jackass looks out of place. there are white trash kids who look out of place, hispanics who do, blacks who do...

    it's a professional neighborhood, if you don't look the part then you stick out. if you don't like it, don't come over here.

    also, my sister-in-law (no pics) who is black was almost robbed by a group of 5 southside teens last summer downtown, so this isn't a black vs. white issue...

    There hasn't been any of that around DC that I know of; the Jefferson Memorial types are not violent. It's not organized - if you listen to the DC bottle-blond enabler police chief - but you have to be careful around some of the Metro stations like L'Enfant after school lets out and the thuggaloes start forming up.     While some of it is just theft, most of it appears to be racially motivated.

    Actually, Chappelle made a career out of making fun of people's propensity to sterotype. He abandoned his career when he realized that people didn't understand what he was doing. He's probably the last person that should be pointed to when discussing the validity of stereotypes. Anyway, I don't think it's racist to acknowledge the race of the people that are causing trouble in this particular instance. However, some of the posts in this thread certainly go farther than that.

    I think he gets on one of the stops around Grand, he works at the Palomar Hotel. He was only on for a couple stops before he transferred trains, this was at about midnight on Friday.
