Chisox announcers are insufferable homers!

You realize its this way for any regional station, no matter what the sport, right? I'm a Wings fan, but even I can see how blatantly biased a FSD broadcast is. Its the same down here in Dallas, the Stars/Mavs announcers are extremely pro-Dallas. It is how it is.

Can't you choose which audio you want to listen to on MLB.com anyways? This should be a non-issue and you could listen to the Tigers announcers.

Harrelson takes homerism to unheard of levels.

Posting member of tRCMB since 1997. It is ALWAYS a great day to be a Spartan!!!!

  • Was it last year or the year before that the Tigers got a favorable call at 2nd base in the first game of a series? Then went on to win by like 5? Hawk was still whining about it in the 3rd game, it was hilarious. lol

They're very fair to both teams (unlike Hawk)

Most homers don't sound like dicks though.

    Please elaborate.

How does Hawk sound like a dick? Is it that he just cheers too much for the White Sox?

    He trashes the opponents.

Give me examples. I've been watching him for 20+ years, and that's simply not true. Could he have said bad things about an opponent at some point? Sure. But that's not his style.

He refers to the opposing team as the "bad guys" and whenever someone from the other team hits a ball down the line he screams "GET FOUL BALL"

You don't do that as an announcer

If that's what actually upsets people, they need to get over it. What do you mean you don't do that as an announcer? I want my announcer cheering for my team as much as possible. It's a home team broadcast.

I mean no ill will, but if those things bother you, then you are a labia-flappin' vagina.

Also his catch phrases are pathetic

The whole "You can put it on the board, YESSSS!!!!!" and "He Gone" crap is really old and not even clever or funny

    That guy needs to retire

Me too. What is the problem?

This country was built by people who worked hard then went home and had just a few too many every night. Then went back to work.

    Exactly.

I've loved Hawk my whole life, but obviously I'm a Sox fan. I will admit that he has gotten increasingly more annoying the past five years or so, but that's because he gets hung up on questionable strike/ball calls and won't let it go three innings later. Particularly two or three years ago, he was tough to listen to because of that.

But I'll never understand how people complain about him being too much of a homer. An announcer should be able to cheer for his team as much as he wants.

You don't do that as an announcer if you work for ESPN or FOX. He is the Sox home TV announcer and you sound like a sensitive girl.

To clarify, he does not say "That Miguel Cabrera is a bad guy". He will say "Good guys 4 Bad guys 2" when he says the score, and he's been doing it for over 20 years.

Yeah, he can be kind of annoying, but for christs sake he is into his 70s now. I've had the pleasure of meeting him several times at golf functions, and I was overly impressed with how good of a guy he is outside of the booth.

I don't really understand why you care about how Hawk announces if you aren't a Sox fan.

I always compare it to watching a game at a bar and fans of the other team are near you cheering very loud. When Tigers fans (for example) are forced to watched the White Sox broadcast and something goes right for the Sox, they are already mad because something just happened against the Tigers. And to top it off, there is an announcer getting extremely excited about it, which makes it worse for them. It's like rubbing salt in the wounds.

But that's the price you pay when you are watching another team's broadcast. They need to get over it.

The incorrect part is that you said "you don't do that as an announcer."

According to whom? Your rules? If what he is doing is so wrong, he wouldn't have had this job for 20+ years.

  • I like to listen to outta town announcers on MLB sometimes and I have heard most. Hawk just takes it to another level of bag of douchery. Some announcers I actually enjoy. The guy from the Angels is amazing.

  • Get over it it's a home broadcast. Listen to the tigers radio feed if it's that big of a deal to you.

    SaintofSinners

  • Is Hawk more of a homer than most announcers? Sure he is, but at least it isn't an act. I mean at least the guy actually cares and has deep ties to the organization. None of us would turn down a chance to be a color guy for MSU, so why begrudge him the same opportunity? No, I don't enjoy listening to him as a Tigers fan, but why should the White Sox give a shit about what a Tigers fan enjoys?

On a side note, Hawk doesn't hold a candle in "homerism" to Larry McCarron, the Packers color guy.

    IHateWeberState

  • Underrated crew here. Hawk is great. A play by play guy who also actually played the game. Stone is also really good.
