Don't bash recruits by implying that they are taking $$$$$. Calipari may be dirty but if your goal is to play one year in college and make millions in the NBA, then Kentucky has proven to be the school that will get you there. If your goal is to work on your overall game and learn invaluable life lessons, then MSU is far superior.

  • Kentucky is a good choice if you want to be a one and done. If you want to become a better man, student, and athlete choose Izzo and MSU.

UK isn't a player for Parker.

And Junkyard has a point: we got Gary Harris when UK came calling. Don't underestimate Izzo.

I wouldn't overreact. You don't have an exact quote, you don't know the context, etc. You have to speculate and infer all kinds of things to get anywhere. That's way too little for me to think differently about Alexander and MSU.

  • Not to be a negative nancy, but sooner or later, the fact MSU has had generally excellent teams nationally in the last few years, and a distinct lack of players who are in the NBA is going to be a recruiting factor.
UK has an in this regard, not just as affects MSU, but others as well.
That said, slime ball doesnt need everyone, just a few, and MSU has gotten a couple of kids UK wanted recently.
Just saying down the road( or perhaps sooner) it would be nice if some MSU kids have good luck playing, getting drafted in the league.

That's what I don't get. Jabari would be a lottery pick if he played one season at LCC. Same for Davis, MKG, John Wall, Derrick Rose, etc.

If I were a top-tier talent, I'd want to go somewhere where I could leave my mark (even if it's only for one year) and be remembered as an all-time great at that school. At the rate Calipari is going, Wall, Cousins, Terrence Jones, Brandon Knight, et al. aren't going to be remembered as the great players they are/were. They're just more cogs in the UK machine that Cal has built. I'm reluctant to include Davis, MKG, and Marquis Teague in that list, as they won UK their first title in over a decade, but unless you come in and win a banner in your one and done year, you're just another schlub to the UK faithful. That's the type of system Cal is fostering.

Contrast that with the lionization of guys like Neitzel, Draymond, Mo Ager, Raymar, Suton. Guys who didn't win titles, but hold a special place in the hearts of fans. I'm sure that's how the vast majority of fan bases feel about certain players in their history. If Jabari Parker went to Kentucky and made a final four but didn't win a title, UK fans would bash him as an underachiever and not on the level of A. Davis. MSU fans would worship the ground he walks on.

Conversely, you could say "these are 18 year old kids who will be making multi-millions in a few short years, what do they care?" That's probably accurate and that's probably why a lot of guys pick UK. They don't really care about college accolades or achievements and just want the path of least resistance to the league. You really can't fault that kind of thinking, I just think if I were in the same situation, I'd want to play at a school where I could leave a mark as an all time great. Be something special. Not just another widget in a basketball factory.

Yea, some guy who is a 5 star or McDonald's AA coming out of HS isn't going to fall of the radar because he doesn't play for UK, UNC or Duke. In fact he is more likely to be lost in a minutes squeeze because they sign another 5 star who is playing the same position.

From 2000 to 2011, MSU has had 10 players drafted (6 in the first round).

UCLA has had 17 (7 first rounders).
Kansas has had 16 (11 first round).
Duke has had 16 (10 first round).
UConn has had 15 (10 first round).
UK has had 15 (10 in the first round).
Texas has had 15 (10 in first round).
UNC has had 14 (11 in first round).
Arizona has had 14 (6 in first round).
Syracuse has had 10 (6 in first round).
OSU has had 10 (6 in first round).

That puts MSU in the 9-11 range in terms of getting kids into the NBA. And for fun:

Illinois 7 drafted (4 in first round)
    IU 6/4
    PU 4/1
    Wiscy 3/2
    UM 3/1

Case in point: Carmelo Anthony at Syracuse. He gave Boeheim (and a rabid fanbase) their only championship (at least the only modern era championship), then went on to the NBA after 1 year.

The Kentucky one and dones don't enjoy anywhere near the status with UK fans that Carmelo has with Syracuse fans, and they never will. I'd bet that at least half of the Calipair recruits could go back to Lexington 5 years after their playing days, and walk around town without most people even recognizing them.

  • UK is his dream school, maybe MSU is his dream school too. Could just be a compliment towards the school. I mean if I got into Harvard and stanford, and someone asks me about Harvard I'd say yeah harvards my dream school, doesn't mean Stanford isnt my dream school as well, they're both outstanding.

He's also said that Illinois and IU lead in his recruitment over the past few weeks.

Yeah, but that's because most UK fans think all black people look the same.

Here's a list of players by school on NBA rosters to start the year. It would be nice for MSU to have more representation.

    Duke 16
    Kentucky 15
    UCLA 15
    Texas 13
    Kansas 12
    North Carolina 12
    Connecticut 11
    Arizona 10
    Florida 10
    Georgia Tech 7
    Wake Forest 7
    LSU 6
    Ohio St. 6
    Southern Cal 6
    Florida St. 5
    Marquette 5
    Purdue 5
    Stanford 5
    Syracuse 5
    Boston College 4
    Georgia 4
    Louisville 4
    Maryland 4
    Memphis 4
    Nevada 4
    Oklahoma St. 4
    Washington 4
    Alabama 3
    Arkansas 3
    Georgetown 3
    Gonzaga 3
    Indiana 3
    Michigan 3
