Comments on the mobile version of tRCMB

  • So far, I don't think the mobile version is that bad. Here are a few things I noticed:
    - Longer threads on the main board do not show or have links to any page but the first page of the thread. This really sucks. A "jump to last read post" would be highly desired.
    - Similarly, within a thread, you have to page through each page to get where you want to go. Page 5, for example, would take five clicks (and five page loads) to get to it. This is highly inconvenient.
    - Do I really have to click on every picture icon and separately load each picture to see each picture in a thread? There should be an option to choose to auto load all pictures on a page.
    - There is no "Reply" button at the bottom of a thread. So, I have to scroll back up to the top of the thread to reply. On a phone this kinds sucks, but is a fairly minor issue.
    - When replying to a thread, no info (thread name, the post you are responding to) shows up on the reply page.
    - No smilies when replying. tRCMB didn't have this either, so you had to remember the format/names. (Is it panic, {panic}, or something else?)
    - Each up or down vote causes a page refresh. This means mobile users most likely won't be using this function (regardless of its usefulness).
    -The act of replying is actually easier. I haven't accidentally sent off a reply (as I frequently did on the old site), and the reply box is large and useful.
    - No avatars and signature blocks is a good call. thumbsup or {thumbsup}

  • I browsed the site a little this morning from my phone. I didn't post, but the site seemed easy enough to read and navigate.

    I did notice that images didn't seem to display, but that might not be a bad thing.

  • lol It looks like the smilies get inserted at the beginning of the line, too (at least from what I'm seeing from my original post) - regardless of where they were actually inserted in the text.

  • in addition to not being able to see pictures, you are unable to see if a post was quoted which can make a thread difficult to follow nerd

    and totally unrelated to mobile - but the rest of the smilies need to be brought over!

    This is the biggest complaint I have

  • Also the right side of the screen cuts off and there are a few letters left off.

    @SpartanBelle

    This!! I quoted you but I won't be able to see it. It makes it very difficult to follow threads or reply to someone who quoted you.

  • Agreed, not being able to see quotes is a major problem...

  • Viewing on a blackberry curve.
    1.Can't see the quoted text, that has to be fixed.
    2. It's too damned big, I can only see 1 or 2 topics at a time.
    3. I have to click pictures? Eff that noise.
    4. Text box for typing messages is way too small.
    5. Lack of ability to navigate (links to page numbers, end of thread, etc.)
    6. CHANGE ARE BAD! JAPE ANGRY!

    maybe its different for bberry vs. iphone but I couldn't even see an option to open pictures? Just to test it out, I opened the "post pics of yourself" thread on my phone last night and got text only

    edit: just kidding, found the tiny little camera button
    no

    Shannon Terry, CEO of 247 posted yesterday that quotes and photos in posts are on the way for the next version of mobile. It's an ongoing project that will have several features added over time. What you see right now is only the first stab at the mobile project. They expect mobile to be HUGE over the next several years so they are focusing quite a bit of attention on it.

  • Thanks for the suggestions, everyone... good stuff. We'll definitely get some of these implemented on mobile. flex
