Computer dorks: Is there any PC that compares to Mac Book?

  • There are a few things you need to look at when purchasing a computer that most people don't talk about:

    1) Check the L2/L3 cache. This is a huge indicator as to how quick the machine will work. Now obviously if you have a slow processor, your cache won't help very much.

    2) Solid State Drive (SSD) vs. HDD: The SSD makes a significant difference in quickness as well. Personally, I think it's well worth the cost.

    3) When buying a PC, I only purchase two brands: Lenovo and Asus. Now that's my personal opinion but I've found that neither of those companies put low-bid hardware inside of their machines.

i've had nothing but success with my $500 gateway laptop for the last 3 years. although i wish i had spent triple so i could keep up with all the cool kids. you're not browsing the internets unless you're in a MAC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Except some people need a laptop for more than calculating corn yields in Iowa and watching Nascar highlights on Youtube.

What does being in the Mid American Conference have to do with browsing the internet. Do MAC campuses have better networks?

  • I went to the Apple store today and looked at the Mac Air and Mac Book and then went to Best Buy and checked out the Sony Vaio and there's just no comparison. The Macs just "feel" so much better all around.

I hate it because there are so many people who are going to bite on this.

  • I just got back from visiting a Microsoft store for the first time. Complete copy an an Apple store (unless these Microsoft stores came first).

The store front was labeled with only a logo, it had the exact same layout as an apple store and products were all displayed the same way, it had way too many employees all wearing different color shirts with fancy name tags and equally fancy checkout devices, and it had a service bar with people that think they are solving the world's most pressing problems. The only thing that was different were the products.

Apple must be doing something right even if it is only marketing.

The Mac fanboys get so offended when you even mention apple because they can't afford their superior products. They'd rather spend all day maintaining their pcs following virus attacks and malware shit. I hate pcs

This. I like the solid feel and consistent quality of my 13" MacBook Pro but the kicker is the OS. It's very easy to use

You think Windows is difficult to use?

Not really usability, but both autoupdate, right?

The reason I'm looking at the Apple is because of the quality. It's that simple.

Since Apple went to x86 the components are identical, no difference in mechanical quality. The OS is the reason to choose Apple, not quality. If you aren't in love with the OS, you can get a faster machine with more memory, ports, etc., and a similar look for a lot less money. And you have to figure in the extra cost of Apple Care, otherwise you will not be treated well should problems arise.

  • The best thing about OSx is that it runs basically on top of Unix but nobody seems to mention that because they dont need Unix to browse the web with big colorful buttons.

Why do you need a laptop? Buy an iPad instead. All the programs are there for legal work. There's even a credit card reader program that allows you to swipe a credit card so you can collect fees from your clients. If you need a keyboard, you can buy one for $80.00.

$80 is not a good deal for a keyboard.

Windows has prompted you about updates for a while now.
