  • W. Va to Big 12 in July after agreeing to $20 million dollar settlement

Boise State mulling jumping to Big East early to replace W. Va

IMO: Cuse and Pitt may try to strike similar deals to leave the Big East in July.

IMO: Expecting 2 schools to agree to join Big 12 by summer (thinking BYU and USAFA) to get the conference title game back.

Report -- West Virginia Mountaineers, Big East agree to settlement that ends battle over conference withdrawal - ESPN

The Big East and West Virginia reached a settlement Thursday night that ends their bitter legal hostilities over the Mountaineers' plans to quit the conference, according to a newspaper report.

I wouldn't be too shocked if that happen, I also think the SEC would offer those 2 to block eastward expansion.

Let us know when Orangebloods confirms this. Until then I can't believe a word of it.

  • Just pondering....why would WVA pay $20 million for the right to be beaten senseless by Oklahoma a year earlier than scheduled?

Because no real school wants to be in that mess of a conference any second longer than they have to be.

Well, considering the Big 12 is picking up 1/2 the tab, it makes good sense.

That makes a big difference, after applying the 4 million DickRod buyout settlement, it's only costing them $6 million. But again, has Orangebloods confirmed this?

  • I hadn't heard the Air Force rumors. Louisville to the BXII has been thrown around, though.

    SpartanGreg

  • Air Force will never go to the Big 12. Their AD is 100% against it and has said so publicly. He said they would be overmatched athletically.

For Boise, there's really no sense in waiting to join the Big East. They just lose additional easy chances to make the BCS by waiting. They're rebuilding, losing like 34 players off their two deeps and they could still win that league next year.

If the Big 12 does expand again, I think they ultimately end up with Louisville and Cincinnati and put both in the North. As of right now though, Texas and OU do not want the league to go back up to 12 teams.

The more I think about it, the more i think AFA and Army goes to the Big East.

As far as the CCG, The Big 12 may not have a choice, especially if a BCS Playoff is an extension of CCG

Could be, but I believe Air Force already balked at the chance to be Boise's western partner during this round and Army's last conference endeavor was a dismal failure and that was just in C-USA. They wouldn't be anywhere close to competitive in the Big East.

The Big East has the 12 they want for football... it's just going to take a while to get all their ducks on to the pond. If they did ever want to bump it up to 14, I'd think they'd take another hard look at Temple and maybe look at UMass, who just moved up to FBS and would provide a Mass. market after they lost BC. Temple and UMass would also be great basketball additions, if Villanova will ever let Temple back in.

  • The Big East will have a CCG no later then 2015. The Big 12 will be costing itself millions without the title game.
