  • I really really want to attend the Frozen Four. Plane tickets are ridiculously expensive right now. Anyont have any tips for finding the cheapest flight down there?

Guy is classy and a heck of a coach. To recruit in Big Rapids against teams like Western, MSU, and U of M is impossible. Congrats to him on his first trip to the Frozen Four.

Think they will be able to maintain what they have doen the last 10 years or so once they leave the CCHA? They have turned into a pretty solid program. Just can't see it continuing in this leftovers league they are going to.

  • A friend of mine played for Daniels, he is far from classy, and even farther from a heck of a coach.

Daniels sucks. If I heard it from a player who was a 4 year player under him and a former captain of the FSU hockey program, it carries weight.

FWIW, I have met Daniels and talked to many other former players who played for him, and they all agree. He is a terrible coach and a worse human being.

He seems to always have his players ready to play that is for sure. Even when Ferris does not have on eof thier best teams they always compete hard. they must buy in to what he teaches.

He won the CCHA regular season title, is going to the Frozen Four, and coaches in Big Rapids, MI. He's obviously doing something right.

Kids have pride and want to play well. They have NHL dreams, and they will play for themselves to get there. Sure, they will follow Daniel's system, right or wrong. They have aspirations beyond FSU.

All I can tell you is I have spoken to at least 12-18 players who have played for Daniels, and they all agree they are not impressed. Not one of them ever told me Daniels was a great coach.

Simple answer is no. They can't recruit. I wish you could see the facilities compared to WMU scUM and MSU. It is silly how bad they are. No way they can get big time players to come in especially without the allure of playing the MSU and scUMs of the world.

I also have talked to several captains of the Ferris State team, and they love him. Guys don't necessarily love playing dump and chase, but with the talent disparity, that's how you have to play to keep you in the game.

The guy is doing something right if he continues to be competitive against the other CCHA programs.

the guy has taken a program from the small irrelevant area of big rapids and beat a major powerhouse and advanced to the frozen four. i've got a buddy that plays for them up there right now and he loves him. he says its a lot of tough love but the guy always has their best interests in mind. he is a good coach

Agree. Ferris is a program that builds for one big year, has it, then rebuilds. They had one of those years a few years back, lost in the tourney, then what?

Glad to see the success though. Used to go to Ferris games as a kid when a friend lived in Big Rapids. Would love to see them win the title.

  • Sounds like Daniels and Ferris are thought of similarly the way Comley and NMU were thought of but with less of a history and perhaps less location/facilities/fan support?

  • I'm a 99 ferris grad. I live in rockford now but a couple years ago we bought a vaca home on lake mecosta. Last night the wife and I drove to BR and worked out at the tennis and racket center and saw 2 students. Went to BW's to watch the game where there were about 10 students watching the game. Then drove home thru downtown where shooters, shubergs and the rest of town were completely dead. Is it possible that BR/ferris sucks worse now than when I went there? We are going to Tampa to watch the frozen 4 (our fucking New Orleans plans got derailed) where I'm sure there will be at least 75 or so bulldogs down for the game.

On the south bay across from the boat launch, always have a big S flag flying on the deck. I LOVE it up here in the summer, great golf, good fishing. Not bad in the winter either with snowmobiling and ice fishing.

That is a nice spot on the lake, in fact that round house immediately to the south of the entrance to the springs is one of my favorites.
