They played well. We played bad and that contributed, but they still played well and deserve some props.

They out-hustled us, out rebounded us, played stifling defense, and created turnovers. Sound like any other team you're familiar with? They basically out-Spartan'd us.

They made us play like Wisconsin. Slow pace and settle for shots. When we play the opposite - faster pace and paint. I don't know why we played so slow once we got past the press... and I also don't know why we didn't force the ball into the paint continually until we finally got it going down there.

The first sane thread I've seen since the game ended.
I had no expectations heading into 2011-12. They won 29 games, shared a regular season title, won the best BTT ever, and got to the 2nd weekend in the big dance.
Great season. Hats off to Louisville, they out muscled us from the start, and made shots when they mattered.

I think this is true. Though this was the worst game we've played since Illinois, we were plumb beat.

No, continuing to go in would have made no difference. If anything, our bigs were shell shocked by the events of the first half and were worse in the second half. The key to the game was that Dieng could handle our bigs without any help. A big part of our success was based on the bigs passing it out of a double team for open threes or scoring over their man if the D played them one on one. You notice that there were no passes from our centers for open threes tonight. That's because they didn't double, leaving no one open and our centers could not score on Dieng one on one.

I think they did a good job scouting us and executing their game plan. For example Dieng handled Nixs inside spin move very well. Nix has had great success with that move this year, but Dieng was ready for it. You don't see that happen very often against an Izzo team. Props to them. Good luck the rest of the way Louisville.
FTR: Not a knock against Nix. He's come a long way this year, and I'm expecting to see even more from him next year. He's turned into a big time player and post presence for us.

We sucked, they played great. Not too much to dissect. Now, I hope Louisville wins the weekend and Pitino kicks Cal's ass. That would be sweet--sticking it to a cheat and his cheater-loving employers. Plus, having Pitino kick their ass would send Kentucky fans over the edge.
