Congrats to Harvard

  • first NCAA bid since 1946

    Amaker's done a heck of a job with that program, wouldn't be surprised to see him get a job at a bigger program in the next couple years

    I can't imagine the success he would have at a place like UM, Izzo's doing tv interviews while he's watching tape, preparing for the next game. With their incredible history and prestige, not to mention how many kids admire the fab 5, their recruiting would be insane. Izzo's had a good run, but this Amaker guy scares me. scared

    All joking aside though, it must be such a letdown to go from coaching at a great program like Michigan to coaching at a school that celebrates just making the NCAA Tournament.

  • Good for Amaker! He may not have succeeded at scUM, but he is a class act and deserves what he has accomplished at Harvard.

  • I always knew Tommy would be successful there. While all the other Ivy league coaches are busy giving interviews on tv and radio Tommy is putting in work coaching.

    Class act? Turning Harvard into the dirtiest program in the Ivy League makes one a class act?

    Amaker made a comment that the reason he is now about to get kids to turn down programs like Maryland, UCLA, Marquette, etc is that he is unlike other Ivy coaches in that he starts recruiting kids as sophomores, unlike other Ivy coaches. That is complete BS, almost all Ivy coaches recruit kids as sophomores. However, unlike other Ivy coaches Amaker is promising admission despite kids not having the grades and uber-rich donors like Steve Ballmer, Thomas Mannix (Knight Capital), Thomas Stemberg (Staples) and Carman Scarpa (Tudor Ventures Group) to make sure recruits are getting all of the financial aid they need to make up for giving up a full scholarship elsewhere.

    Of course, when Harvard runs the Ivy it's easy for them to look the other way, especially when Amaker has already had recruiting violations. F Harvard.

    "At most Ivy League institutions, families earning less than about $65,000 annually are now asked to make no contribution to their children’s education. Families making $65,000 to $180,000 might be expected to pay 10 percent to 18 percent of their annual income on a sliding scale.
