Congratulations to Edwin Baker - Signed 4 year contract with SD

Chargers signed seventh-round RB Edwin Baker to a four-year contract.
A former top high school recruit, Baker looked posed for stardom as a sophomore before his production sank as a junior playing behind Le’Veon Bell. Baker goes 5-foot-8, 202 with surprising pop for a small man and 4.45-4.47 speed. He has a significant talent edge on incumbent third-stringer Curtis Brinkley.

Completly opposite of the scenario Kirk Cousins was drafted into, Edwin Baker has a legitimate chance to make an impact right away.
I wish Edwin the best in San Diego.

What kind of scratch does a player drafted that low bring in? I am guessing more than I will ever make but probably less than half of what most rcmbers make. Congrats to a fellow spartan!

For the record, the 250th pick in 2011 signed a contract worth 4 years/ $2.09 million. First year salary was about $375k with a signing bonus of $46k.

He shouldnt have any trouble taking care of his family like he wanted to. I'd say mission accomplished, at least for 4 years anyway.

Yep. He gets the 50k signing bonus, but has to make the roster to make the salary. And if he does well and is playing like a starter he is going to have to try and renegotiate to get paid what he is worth.
If they put him on the practice squad does that void the contract or does a year come off?

I'm pretty sure players are cut (thus voiding their contracts and making them free agents), and then are added to the practice squads. They are paid set minimums/week ($6000 or something like that) while on the practice squad (but are free to sign contracts to join other teams).

Nigel Uno is correct. The contract is guaranteed as long as he's on the roster. If he's cut, he can be re-signed to the practice squad by the Chargers or any other team, and then makes the practice squad salary.
He can be signed by the Chargers or any other team to the active roster. If that happens, he would have to sign a new contract. I do not know if those "new" contracts adhere to the slotted compensation of the CBA, but surmise that they do, at least if Rock signs with another team this year.
