  • The British pound is worth way more than the dollar. £20,000/year should set you up quite nicely right in the city.

    A. If you made $200k a year in Lincoln for more than 5 years, you could just retire.
    B. If you move to London, my only advice is to convince Pippa Middleton to have pity sex with you for living in Lincoln.

Yeah, $200K is nothing these days.

As a recent college grad I'll just say I'm not exactly crying for you. 200k is more than enough to be comfortable.

I believe tooth paste is very expensive in London. Keep that in mind when negotiating.

I disagree, I think the reaction is just another example of the low lifes who populate this place on a regular basis, hate themselves and their stations in life, and use a message board to vent their frustrations and inner self loathing. Now, go make a fucking friend.

Considering the cost of even "decent" housing is much higher, taxes are much higher, medical care that you can trust and don't have to wait for costs more as well as fuel if you feel compelled to own a car in London, you would need at least 300k to approach maintaining your current standard of living. Ballpark it at 186k pounds/year. Keep in mind your housing will likely be much less spacious and comfortable than what you now have. VAT is up to 20% on many items. You need to consider if having "International" experience is a key to moving up with your company. Is this part of grooming for a promotion? If so, bite the bullet and do your time over there even if the salary bump isn't much more than your getting now. It is a vibrant city and while it's no Lincoln, you should be able to find something to do. And if you go, treat yourself to a great burger and a couple of steaks prior to leaving. British beef is crap and they overcook it to boot.

thanks for the information..... i don't need a big/expensive place, i live alone, so i'm fine with sucking it up in aloc small joint for a couple of years, location close to central london and night life is a priority.....

So based on what i have found so far, taxes are facking insane over there... 50% income tax to start with and then add the others like VAT, and this and that.... holy sheet, that's out of control.... one thing we have it good over here is disposable income as a ratio of pay....

Sir, you don't have to explain. The pencil necked geeks on here are easily offended because they hate themselves so fucking much. You have to wade through that shit to get to the solid posts. Be patient, the secure posters will give you some good info.

right Sooooo....Odds that "lincolnrules," who "registered today," is actually a schtick Tanfan used to get people to question the veracity of the self-reported income of a new poster? so that he could then bitch about "the low lifes who populate this place on a regular basis, hate themselves and their stations in life, and use a message board to vent their frustrations and inner self loathing {sic}"?

I'm going with 50-50. That may even be low.
