For the other few Cubs fans on the board, let this be our trust tree, where we can all feel the pain together.
Expectations for this year, 66-96, last place in the central, and Soriano (despite having a decent first half of the year) will refuse to waive his no trade clause. Marmol will get yanked from the closer roll after a few of his classic meltdowns, and I will still go to a bunch of games because I can and tickets will be cheap.
Am I being realistic, or too hard on them? I was about dead on with my expectations last year, and don't see too much more hope this year. Though admittedly, I haven't been watching much of the spring training.
What is the 'safe word' for this year?
As being a cubs fan is pretty much like being dominated by a cruel dominatrix on her last day on the job.
Marriage is like flying with kids, if the flight had 500 connections, never ended, Ted Striker were your pilot and you ate the fish.
I have never been so unenthusiastic about a Cubs season in my life. Normally I don't lose interest until they are out of it. I haven't regained interest yet, and it's opening day.
Safe word ideas
$10 bleacher tickets on stubhub for the second home game (against the brewers). If the weather is alright, I'm there. But it's looking about as positive as the cubs prospects.
Good band, but not a very creative name lol.
Cubs suck, pissed they don't host the Tigers this season.
I plan on attending a dozen or so games. Haven't been in Wrigley in over 20 years.
Now that its a mile away, I'm taking advantage. Helps to have zero rooting interest, though I'm sure that will quickly change.
Outside of Jorge Soler and Albert Almora this is a safe assumption.
It's nice being as close as we are. For night games during the week, its something to do. Just walk over and usually be able to get a cheap ticket, but if not, just head to a bar to watch the game and have some cheap beers and food. There are worse things.
I have a buddy who's a Cubs fan, I always feel bad for him and this year looks to be exceptionally bad.
I wonder how long it will take Epstein to get the ball rolling. Hard to be encouraged by the fact that Samardzija is the opening day starter though...
laying in the weeds
I go to 10-15 Cubs games a year and still don't really root for them.
I like watching baseball and Wrigley is awesome. I will be at the home opener next week (and likely freezing my ass off).
And Barney is on the DL. Pretty soon we're going to go from lovable to pitied.
I think he's doing all the right things, it's just going to take a few years to see the bounce off the bottom.
You can root for a team in the other conference right? Especially if they're your "hometown" team? My girlfriend is a Tigers fan, but she pulls for the cubbies when we go. Has a couple cubs shirts and everything. (She pulled for the Tigers when they played each other and we went).
I'm a Tigers and Cubs fan.
Tigers since I was a kid and a Cubs fan since 92 so I get to experience winning and losing at the same time
This, exactly this. When I head down to Wrigley this year I am gonna have to get really drunk before/during/after games to the point where I just don't give a rat's ass.
Let me get this down, $100 million. Oh wait, I have a better idea. Instead of $100 million, how about I send you a hobo's dick cheese?
The new Wrigley renovation seems like it will be very nice.
Lol- trust tree
I don't have any issues with it. I'm a Tigers fan.
I like watching the Cubs and go to a lot of games. I pay attention to the team and what happens with them, but I stop short of calling myself a fan.
My wife calls herself a Cubs fan, even though she grew up as a Tigers fan. She told me last year that she'd root for the Cubs in a Cubs/Tigers world series. We didn't talk for a little while after that.
The new Rosemont stadium will be awesome.
Clearly a science fiction rendering of the future.
I just posted this in the 'Holly Sonders has a big rack' thread.
I believe it is worthy enough to be posted in this thread as well.
Who is Holly Sonders? I'm at work so not going to google it.
I think she's a golfer.
Golf "personality" on tGolf Channel. Played golf @ MSU.
