No clear favorite to win it all. Conference tournaments are gonna be huge depending on the final conference standings. #1 ranked teams getting knocked off left and right. Seems to be a lot of parity and that anyone ranked in the top ten could win it all. I can't recall a season like this - 2013 could wind up being epic - one of the best tournaments ever. Agree?

Yes- it sets up well for mid majors
before the big dance, the individual conference tournies (especially the BTT) should be incredible.
Should be a ton of close games. However, endgame execution is pretty awful, lot of fadeaway threes, bad decisions, and horrendous calls. It will be exciting. Also probably a very good chance that multiple mid majors crash the Final Four. Last time that happened (2011) lot of people whined that they wanted to see the big boys in the big games. People talked about reseeding the Final Four so UK and UConn could meet in the final. The narrative seems to be that people love Cinderella early but want to see the name programs late.
Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.
The ratings have confirmed this multiple times too.
The two prevailing theories are that if people's brackets are fucked, they're not watching the games, and big names draw eyes.
Every year I think there's no way this tourney can top one's in the past and I'm usually wrong. So yes, this will be the best tourney ever..until next year.
Exactly my thoughts. I think this every year. Op makes a good point about there being no clear cut favorite, or even a few teams that have seperated.
I'm always pumped for March Madness, but yeah, this year a bunch of teams have a chance at winning the whole thing, including MSU. It will be a crazy tournament.
I'll let you know came early April...
I love this year in reminds me a lot of 2009/2010 when we lost to Butler in the FF. There was no "dominating" team that year it was completely up for grabs. All season and the NCAA tournament was upset city. Made for exciting games.
So far this year I love it because there have been so many upsets and it seems to happen every night. That and for the most part the upset bug has avoided us.
The first time MSU basketball aired in France the French surrendered to Tom Izzo just to be safe.
I agree that the lack of a favorite and the huge amount of parity makes it look like this year's tournament should be epic. Now watch it all go chalk.
It will be wildly entertaining. The regular season has already featured tons of buzzer beaters, a 5OT game, #1 being upset every week...no team should feel safe when the tourney rolls around. I'm excited.

There is definitely no favorite right now. I'd say about 12 teams you could make a case for winning it all. Maybe the weeks leading up to the big dance will give us a better idea of who is legit. I think a couple teams could falter, but at the very least ten legit teams could win it. Gonna be an awesome tournament.
I really think this is the year that a #1 seed loses its first game...
And it will be Michigan!

Geography may be as important as seed this year, at least for the top 10-12 teams.
It is lining up to be a memorable tourney
I've been saying for a few weeks there are 12 top teams (that will occupy the top 3 seed lines): Zona, KU, Zaga, UF, Duke, Miami, Cuse, Lousivlle, scUM, O$U, IU, MSU. After what we've seen, I think taking Zona and O$U off that list (they'll still be top 3 seeds), and the NC will come from those 10.
Just think if there was a team like Kentucky from last year they'd run away with the thing. But I'm liking the consistent inconsistency out of the top teams.
Aaaaaaand boom goes the dynamite.
I believe we'll have a 1 or 2 lost to a 15 or 16 this year.
DAMN IT MY BRACKETS ARE FRICKEN SCREWED UP ALREADY AND I HAVE EVEN PICKED.
Mizzou last year.
The RCMB...is one of the most awful, alarming, inappropriate, disgusting, and offensive msg boards in the history of the internet.
Damn you! That really effed my brackets up last year. I suck at brackets.
I'm picking one 16 to beat a 1 this year. Yep. Here we go!!
Took the words right out of my mouth. #16 beats a #1 this year for the first time....you heard it here....uhhh....second
I remember the media slurping Mizzou last year and their fans crowing. Watching them choke was awesome.
Load up on B1G teams to go far in the bracket. Could have 3 in the Elite 8 depending on draw.
....only if we win the whole damn thing.

I actually think it's the opposite. The years that there's a clear #1, and that #1 loses early in the tournament (like Kansas did vs UNI), the rest is pure chaos. Had Kentucky choked last year, it could've been a lot more entertaining.
Last year, those 2 seeds were flawed, too. Mizzou had their outrageously small lineup. Duke was playing a Lehigh team that played us strong at the Bres early in the year (I honestly wanted to pick Lehigh but just didn't have the balls to do it).
This year, there's essentially a top 10 or 12 teams so separated from the rest of the pack that I can't see many of them dropping against a 6, 7, or 8 seed. And it would take a LOT of upsets to stop a 1/2/3 seed from winning it all.
