ESPN_BigTen: Just talked to Jim Delany. Said ADs and coaches only discussing 9- and 10-game league schedule models. No support to stay at 8 games.
ESPN_BigTen: The new B1G schedules (9 or 10 games) likely would go into effect for 2016 or 2017. Wouldn't happen right after Maryland/Rutgers join
ugh. RIP to decent non-conf. opponents
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
Please let it be 10. 9 is so fucking stupid, unless everyone in the same division plays equal h/a
Good news, but the new schedule needs to go into effect when Maryland and Rutgers join.
9 makes more sense if they rotate which divisions have 5 home games. It is an easy solution to the problem.
This is interesting too: Rittenberg/Bennett @ESPN_BigTen
Here's big one for fans: If schools want to play primetime games in November, B1G won't stand in their way. Coaches want more night games
If they do 9 games, UM and OSU will get 5 home games most years. They'll both have 5 home games in year 1, 4 home games in year 2, 5 home games in year 3. Then, between years 3 and 4, the league will reboot all the schedules for some reason (expansion, division realignment, new TV contract, etc.), and they'll both coincidentally start off with 5 home games again. Lather, rinse, repeat.
in which case i would support 10 game schedule IF the ncaa will grant the teams a 13th regular season game........
As Rocky suggested, no way we play anyone good NC if there are 10 conference games... Both NC will be teams that require no home-home reciprocity.
10 games. We'd be out of the Alabama home and home by then anyway.
this i don't mind... but it would be up against SEC on CBS/ESPN or Notre dame..... If they could guarentee a night game in the ABC/ESPN national contract, just like they do for the 3.30pm slot... then go for it........ if the night games going to end up on BTN, then I think the purpose of it gets shot in the foot....
My guess is that only big games get the November night slots, at least to start. I can't imagine IU's athletic director thinking a Minnesota/IU game on November 18 at night is a good idea.
it doesn't matter what their ad's think...if networks schedule them for a night game, they get a night game.
I hope the schedule is moved to 10 games and that the NCAA sets the regular season schedule to 14 games. Early December is wasted and there is too much time between the last football game and the BCS bowl games.
League coaches expressed support for more primetime games in the final full month of the regular season during conference meetings the past two days. Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany told ESPN.com that the conference has no objection if schools want to schedule more night games in general, including ones in November.
I think it should be 13 games that way you can't end up with a .500 record
7-6 makes a bowl game, 6-7 doesn't
Rogue Leader= Obese coward who didn't attend MSU and has no college degree
not necessarily. i would have MSU play the same 3 game non-conf sched every year = 1 mac school (home), 1 mid-tier school from a "BCS" conf (home and home), and a 3rd school of their choice (perhaps take a road game in a prolific recruiting area or take another home pay day).
i only care about spartans --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqsAJQc-NCY
Delaney blocked that for years.........................until last week when DoucheMeyer opened his mouth..... and jimbo got on his knees to beg.
November night games were always possible, as long as they finalized all the details in March/April and the two teams and TV networks signed off on it.
Iowa vs Minny in 2008 was a November night game
Excuse the double negative in this headline, but it has a purpose. I don't want Big Ten fans to get too excited about something I clarified this week

Fans may want that, but with 10 conf games you'd be foolish to schedule a big time opponent when you may be @tOSU on the 3rd game of the year. Only way this happen ls if the selection commitee actually values SOS, meaning they actually pick a 10-2 team over a 11-1 squad. I'm not optimistic.
That was an indoor game. The "rule" or whatever it was didn't apply to indoor games.
i disagree with this. remember that in 2014, football is going to the "selection committee" like hoops, and thus there will be incentive to not play cream puffs as that could be the difference between being the last team in or the first team out of the BCS playoff.
Which is stupid. Apparently the NFL can play night games in December and January in the midwest, but heaven forbid a college game be played at night in November.
Agreed. If anything it places more emphasis on conference games and less on non-conference. I think it would be beneficial for schools to schedule one tune-up game labor day weekend and then marquee game to get the national exposure.
Hey I hope that's what would happen. but right now AD's want/need 7 home games to pay the bills.
Coaches have 8 conference games, and typically 3 creampuff noncon and one good NC opponent.
10 conference games and one good NC would reduce the auto wins from 3 to 1.
I don't think they are likely to give that up on the outside shot the your schedule is going to keep you out of a Four team tournament.
Well, they changed the rule, so you can stop being offended.
