Haha yeah, that game was horrendous. No way even Duke fans thought that was a fun and exciting game.
MSU shot only 2 less FTs than duke all game, and the fouls ended 24 for MSU, 17 for Duke. INCLUDING the fouls that MSU had to commit at the end of the game. There were a lot of fouls, but they were pretty evenly distributed. MSU didn't make a shot for 15 minutes. Let's stop being stupid. I hate when people make it sound like we've never lost a game, its just been stolen from us for some reason.
MSU didn't play well. End of story.
The problem I had with the whistles was the inconsistency. They were letting Duke absolutely hammer Nix down low in the first half and then in the second half, they started calling a bunch of touch fouls around the perimeter. It wasn't remotely consistent.
Also...while I notice some like to bring up the total fouls...it's really not about total fouls it is all when they are called. Both times Duke extended the lead was in a 3 to 4 minute span of about 4 or 5 whistles in a row against MSU and Duke would make the run. Then the officiating would slightly change and MSU would "creep" back into the foul count and it would look close again.
Not to mention out of bounds calls, the inbounds call and so forth. There is a lot more to evaluating how a game is called than comparing free throws.
Anyone still think that was a good charge call?
Perfect form 10/10 on the flop
And Harris got called for a 'reach in' when he tried this move. How dare he!

I told my buddy right before the game that the only thing that is going to screw us tonight is if the officials call a tight game. It's not that we necessarily got screwed on calls. The refs simply took our physical advantage away by calling a very tight game. In big ten games, we are able to get into a flow because nothing gets called. We just are not a skilled enough scoring team to overcome that
It's their style and Coach K's gameplan. His philosophy for winning is "win the frees and threes." He coaches his guys to get fouls called.

i agree that msu didnt play well and the better team won, but there's no denying that the poor officiating played a huge part in our not playing well. there's no way to build up any kind of momentum when a whistlepalloozza is going on, nix was clearly frustrated on the offensive end with all the no calls. looking merely at the numbers aint enough, go to the tape and watch.
There's more to it than how many FTs you shoot. First of all, even if FTs are distributed evenly, a FT-shooting contest benefits dook. But whom the refs put in foul trouble GREATLY affects the game, and removing any rhythm from the game hurts the team trying to catch up.
No argument that we didn't play well, but it's not even close to the whole story.

The Appling charge was such horse shit. At that point the game was 47-41 and that bucket and a free throw would have made it a 3 point game.
The blueprint does work. The difference is that 2000 team lit it up from 3. As did the 2005 team, 2009 team and 2010 team. We can't win in the dance when no one aside from Harris can consistently bury shots from deep. It's what did us in last year and what finished us off this year. Everything else is in place. Just need to find some shooters.

I literally gave you a standing ovation before typing this
Regional final will be interesting from an officiating standpoint. Louisville reaches and make contact on every trip. They've largely been allowed to do so. We all saw how last nights game was officiated.
Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.
And Plumlee, arguably duke's best player. had 4 fouls...
What about Trice traveling, or Payne goal tending?
And should have fouled out with the charge
You mean the goaltending after Curry took 4 steps.....then a jump stop?
Are we talking about the play where Curry got away with a travel that would make Michael Jordan blush?
Exactly. Everyone missed that part, play should have never happened, curry took 4 steps.
As did plum lee at least 4 times, and curry a few other times. We got away with one; they got away with at least 6. That's 6 TOs, 6 more possessions. And on a few of the plumlee walks, they resulted in whistles...called as fouls on us.
Harris is quoted as saying it was hard to guard curry because he kept pushing off. Which he did on most of his shots. And buried Trice once on the baseline.
When puke made their run, it was directly aided by 2 offensive fouls in 3 possessions on us. I believe we got called for 5 offensive fouls, I don't recall one called on puke, including the two times plumlee ran over a set Nix.
As for the out-of-bounds, the minimum was 2 obvious off puke, including the one in front of the anncrs when the anncr called it off puke...and then the ref stepped in. On both of those 2, duke scored, got 5 points off those 2 possessions.
Not to mention Appling was hit hard on at least 4 of his shots, including 2 makes, no call at all and only a warning to Appling to quit complaining.
Add all these up: 4 walks (took 5th away to even up horrible non-call when Trice walked + 5 BS O fouls on us plus 2 not called on plumlee + 2 out-of-bounds blown calls = 13 possessions for puke they shouldn't have had and 6 more FTs Appling should have had.
And the thing that bothered me the most was after curry's dirty foul on Harris, which wasn't reviewed, Harris misses the first FT...and curry behind him started clapping, F'n douche. Fully knew what he did, fully knew about Harris's shoulder, fully went after it.
MSU did not play well. But, other than Curry, neither did Duke. It often amazes me that a team like Duke gets to the line as a chuck and duck offense. They don't feed the post much at all. MSU runs everything through the post. Yet, somehow Nix, Dawson, and Cistello were all in foul trouble .
