Ohio has a few kids in the top 100, Michigan has 2 and of course Chicago and Indy land are loaded again with Williams, Matthews, Coleman, Brunson, among others. There still should be plenty of recruits for MSU, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio State. I think Izzo will start branching out to NYC and NJ when Rutgers joins and the Big East dies. Syracuse, Pitt, and UCONN should be fine but St John's is dead along with Marquette, Georgetown, etc.
A few sportswriters in Indy that I know have spoken to his family and his AAU coach and they seem to like our chances with him. Alexander is a no brainer. The kids been tweeting MSU stuff to Okafor all winter long.
Why is it that people treat recruiting like another season in and of itself. Have we made noise recruiting this year? No. Went for the home run and didn't get it. Still got a very solid player instead.
When you lose one good player from your entire team, and have two guys that will be first round draft picks after next year (Payne, Harris) its hard for me to be pessimistic. We're going to recruit and land other excellent wings for the future but in the meantime we have Gary, Denzel (kind of a combo) and Dawson. Byrd I think will improve slightly. Maybe end up being a guy that hits a jumper or two off of the bench next year. Hopefully Kaminski will help out as well.
Either way, this program will be completely fine. We've established a brand here and good basketball players are going to want to play for us. Stop freaking out over a loss in the Sweet Sixteen. Ask Georgetown, Gonzaga, New Mexico, K-State, Wisconsin and a host of other great schools if they'd have liked a Sweet Sixteen berth. I'm sure they would've.
Hell Kentucky didn't even make the tournament this year! They'll still land their blue chip talent, just like MSU.

Imma cut him some slack tonight
it's patently obvious that you have no idea what the fuck you are talking about. Torberg was a top 5 player NATIONALLY....Shannon Brown was a huge get, Paul davis was as well...Kalin was a high 4 star. Izzo isn't doing anything he hasn't always done. and if you haven't noticed, we have 3 5 stars on our team right now.
Sorry, late to this thread:
Where do all these frackin IDIOTS come from? Can we please get them to a tailgate in September so I can groin kick them.
Nίκη για MSU
Lol, why so mad bro? It's clouding your ability to formulate arguments.
Torbert and Davis were both state of MI products; not exactly national recruiting battles. Brown was certainly a national recruit, and probably the only Top 5 out of state kid that Izzo has signed, besides Randolph.
In 2014, he appears to be almost exclusively targeting top 5-10 recruits, which is certainly unique for him. It may be a complete coincidence, or it may be a dedicated change in strategy. But it is obvious that 2014 will certainly be a very different and interesting year for MSU bball recruiting.
Harris, Valentine, and Costello are one of the top 2 or 3 Freshmen classes in MSU basketball history. Izzo is chasing more national recruits than ever before, and basically has Cliff Alexander locked up with a good shot at Tyus Jones and Okafor. He is getting NBA talent to return to school next year. The future has never been brighter IMO.
No, he's looking outside the top 10 for 14.
Reid Travis from Minnesota, Turner from Michigan, maybe Ulis from Illinois.
The top 10 guys are just getting the most publicity. Net is being cast wider than just Jones, Okafor, Alexander, Booker, and Looney.
Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.
The big reason that 2014 is different is that almost the entire top 10 is local talent (meaning B1G country). Torbert and Davis were both Mi products but most certainly were national recruiting battles. As was Jason Richardson, Mateen Cleaves, Antonio Smith among countless others.
get as mad as you want...
The only concern I have is if scUM makes the FF or heaven forbid wins the NC then they might start pulling in recruits with MSU offers
We really haven't had to worry about that for over a decade
Rogue Leader= Obese coward who didn't attend MSU and has no college degree
Boooooo selective enforcement

That's not really a worry to me as long as B____ is there. They don't recruit the same type of players for his system as we do. There might be a random PG or SG that we'll compete on, but competition hasn't really hurt UNC or Duke at all. In fact I think the lack of any real rival for the last 20 years has hurt us in recruiting more often than it's helped. If the MSU v. UM matchup got hyped as much as the UNC v. Duke matchup we'd be pulling in more top 10 type players.
I pretty much disagree with this entire post.
