It's still in beta. From my short use of it, I don't think it's worth using just yet.
Catching up. Having read a lot.... is this correct?
Google doesn't add turn by turn to the IOS application that comes with the iPhone.
Apple continues to ask but no turn by turn.
Apple launches its own maps app (we all know how that is)
Apple tells Google that no Google map will be approved for launch in the app store without turn by turn.
Google launches a new app and it is approved - it has turn by turn - but other bugs
While this app is available - and still working out the kinks - it is not part of the IOS so it isn't the default map that launches when you click on a text with an address.
We don't know if anything will be done to make this the default application.
I held off on the iPhone 5 switch from the Windows Phone because of this map issue. Is this good enough to go back?
Does this new map have local street traffic like the previous google map????
That whole progression of events is what Barnes posted, yes. I don't know why anyone thinks they knew what happened in a Cupertino board room over the course of months/years.
What we do know: not the default maps app. Highly doubt Apple will give people the option of making it the default app. Not their M.O. GMaps does have local traffic shown. Also has public transit directions. There are your ups/downs.
I have an Android device. Google Maps works great.
Have you tried the Here Map App?
