The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports the Steelers "really wanted" to re-sign Brian Hoyer.
Of course, the Steelers had Hoyer on their roster for two weeks last season before releasing him to create room for a practice squad cornerback. The move was a mistake. Beat writer Ed Bouchette reports if the Cardinals had not tendered Hoyer at the second-round level as an RFA, Pittsburgh would have pushed hard to bring him back. The Steelers now have Bruce Gradkowski as their backup and are expected to take another in the draft.
Yea, his first two qbs at MSU turned out to be real clinkers.
"losing Caleb Benenoch is a blow that Dantonio will never recover from. Izzo has lost it as well. Hoke and Beilein own the state."
No shit. When your backup and 3rd QB's are Byron Leftwich and Charlie Batch, the best move is to cut the young, mobile QB with starting potential.
The Steelers make me wonder. They better hope Roethlisberger makes it through 16 games unscathed this season.
Looks like Hoyer is back on the market, we'll see how many other teams were really interested.
Hopefully Az didn't tie him up long enough to miss out on a lot of other opportunities.
The Arizona Cardinals on Monday cut quarterback Brian Hoyer, who had been tendered at a second-round level, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
