Exactly right. MSU fans should not be questioning MD right now in respect to the long term.
Was just pointing out that if this whole thing went south - highly unlikely to me - it would be beyond tragic for MSU fans.
Don't even want to think about it.
Wow there are a lot of pussies on this board. Coach D has been the best coach MSU has had since Duffy. Amazed at this fan base, which is definitely shittier than its current coach.
MSU in 2000-06: 38-45
MSU under Dantonio: 49-27
At what point is there a question?
When that record becomes significantly different over the next year or two... barring some crazy recruiting bump or finding another couple "diamonds in the rough"
After this season Bell will go pro. Duzzi will get a HC gig. DR will be back as OC. Recruiting will stay in the 30's. O-line will continue to have both injuries and issues. Schedule will help them but they will still find a way to lose close games that they should have won, and both Delaney and the refs will continue to "hover" over this program if it should continue to become a future threat to O$U and SCum resurgence to conference dominance.
"I love March!" - Tom Izzo
I endorse this man for mod 2012.
Because we were trotting HS All Americans out there the last 2 years?
2 years is definitely a long enough timeline to determine what is successful long term.
And 10 games is a long enough timeline to determine that the program will nosedive back into obscurity?
I didn't say that. The last year or two everyone's given M.D. the Izzo treatment... he can do no wrong. I'm an MD fan and I think he is doing the best job he can with what he has, and I would not consider making a change at his position.
I think he had some good fortunate with a group of kids that are no longer there anymore. Can he repeat that flash of success? It's yet to be seen, thus far.
I fall on the side of Tanfan on this one. It's not arithmetic, but we were hoping these diamonds in the rough would translate into better recruiting so we don't have to rely on picking up kids that "every one else glossed over". So far that hasn't happened.

It's easier to just give up than wait apparently, coward chickenlittles. These clowns that expected big name recruiting classes based off two good years are clearly delusional it will only come with consistent success.
Edit: Sorry, after rereading that sounded different than my intent.
There's nothing for me to "give up"... I'm a spectator. It's entertainment, I turn on the TV and I'm being broadcast simple entertainment. You're taking criticism of a football coach a bit personally.
I don't "expect" anything except that my team plays on Saturday throughout the fall. I'm just stating what I see as the facts.

How many years of "consistent success" does MSU football need to be considered nationally relevant enough to recruit top ten classes? Serious question...just asking?
A lot of years. Those top 10-15 ranked recruiting class schools are pretty entrenched in there. Oregon has been the only 'outsider' to be in that range with any consistency lately and they have only had 1 top ten class and are back in the 30s with us this year, that's with Nike money.
We'd have to go 15-20 years of winning 9-11 games most years to get up there and one of OSU,UM or ND would likely have to fall back. Honestly, we aren't going to get up there. That doesn't mean we can't have success though, we just need to look at the Wisconsin model and keep doing what we're doing.
This is a down year, almost 100% due to new recievers and an injury ridden O line. We will be fine.
The lack of discipline is the real concern for me. I know this team is young but just STUPID fucking penalties and just ridiculous screw ups (Iowa FG attempt) seem to be a reoccurring theme here. Sure they are young but you've been playing football your whole fucking life, you know damn well what constitutes a personal foul and that you shouldn't do those actions that can draw one. We've kept plenty of opponent drives alive on stupid penalties alone. It is infuriating. JLS level shit. I thought we were past that.
Taiwan Jones and Mylan Hicks were the only PFs weren't they? They should still know better, Mylan's you have to chalk up to really wanting to hit someone after sitting on the sidelines for 3 years and TJ's was just stupid. Those are 2 guys getting their first significant PT of their careers, I would be more concerned if it were veterans doing it, coaching wise.
The Iowa FG situation was a terrible mis-communication, I don't recall anything similar before or since though?
So what are you seeing that makes you optimistic for the future?
Defense is still the best in the B1G despite today's performance with almost everyone coming back next year and good young players behind them. You have to try a little harder to be optimistic about the offense. The receivers are improving though slowly, but surely and are very young. The OL is making small strides, injuries have really killed them this year which has killed our season as well IMO.
The defense is evidence that MD and Co. can get the job done without a bunch of HS AAs. If we can get the O line to continue to improve into next year as well as getting Fou/Jackson back, I think we will be in good shape going into next year.
I disagree that they are getting the job done.
Depends on your definition of "disaster".
Two months ago MSU was an odds-on favorite to win the B1G. Now where are we at? The way things are headed, MSU is going to finish what - 8th place? MSU is battling, BATTLING, to remain bowl eligible. A far cry from the Rose Bowl.
Frankly, I was hoping blow-outs and multiple arrests are behind MSU. Expectations are a little higher for this program.
You mention "close games". Close games that MSU keeps losing with regularity. And "L" is and "L". That's what matters.
You mention "senior leadership". What about all this depth I've been told of? MD red-shirting players, all this. We're well into the season. Leadership is not a "senior" thing anymore. This current crop of sophomores, juniors, and seniors need to step up.
Back to MD. I just keep thinking - he pleaded with fans to show up. Then he gives them this: another freaking dodo egg. Nice one coach!
They had a ridiculously bad game by their standards, and gave up 28 points. They can't really be much better. They gave up the 4th quarter TD to Iowa and let UM into FG range, but they gave up 13 and 12 points in those games. those games are still all on the offense.
While I see your point - you must admit this season has gone poorly. I think the fans who pay a lot of money and have bought in to this program deserve some answers. MD needs to answer some questions. For example:
Why does MSU keep getting beat at home coach? Help us understand that.
Are you going to do anything different to keep this from happening?
And so on...
To me, the "pussy" is the person who won't ask questions.
The offensive line sucks/is injured and the WRs couldn't catch shit until a week ago. Do you expect him to throw a bunch of his kids under the bus or what? It's obvious what's wrong.
