Tyler O'Connor had one impressive recruiting film. I know its only HS but what was obvious is that unlike Maxwell has shown.. O'Connor showed super touch on all throws and is a much much better runner. Was amazed at how he could drop raindrops into the receiver on bombs to anywhere on the field, fire 20 yards across the field to a guy running for the side line and then feather screens and short routes for first down.I think Connor Cook is odd man out from here forward. Dantonio is not going to go through another season with predictability in the running game... which then forced predictability by having no choice but to pass. Need that QB that is a threat to punish the D with over agressiveness by being able to tuck it and run with a purpose. Cook is a lead foot. O'Connor is not.

I just don't see much improvement from Maxwell during the season. The receivers seem to have improve, but still too many overthrows and dumb moves from Maxwell.
I wonder if this won't be the case. You break in another QB and you're going to have another incredibly rocky season. He can't afford to have two in a row. It would lose him all the momentum he gained in the two seasons prior to this one.

I hate to bash college kids but this guy has no touch. Everything he throws is a line drive. He doesn't throw a catchable ball. Most of the drops are due to his hard throwing style. If he does audible it is to the wrong play. The pick 6 today was an audible that he called. The guy doesn't have the intangibles to be a good QB. With that arm of his he should have gone into baseball.
He either needs to put some touch on the ball or their needs to be an open QB competition. Sorry
You're going to be doing this in 2 seasons anyway. When you are 3-3 or 4-4 or 5-5 and you come out and lay rotten eggs in first halves of these games then you bring in relief. Next man up as there is no OTJ on a 12 game season.
Dantonio said Maxwell played with a severely bruised shoulder on throwing arm. Could not throw Tuesday. Hurt on NW pick 6
Then why not pull him after some of those picks? If his injury is seriously enough to be costing us the game, put in Cook! Let the offense run through Bell.
Do you think they have confidence in Cook?
I don't. But if your QB cannot make throws properly due to an injury, you put in the backup.
So by injury, not by intent, did we feed the beast known as Leveon Bell...oh lordy.
Not if the backup is worse than an injured starter.
This is Max's 12th game as a starter. He was 13/29; for143 yards, (41) on the tipped pass; 1TD (the tipped pass) and two picks, including one pick 6 and one in while in FG range. Max did this while Bell was rushing for 266 yards against a defense stacked against the run.
And did this while injured.
True. But this is a typical game performance for Maxwell over a 12 game season.
Some of it has to fall on the receivers, a lot of that 7% IMO. Including Arnett and Sims, MSU receivers has 69 receptions coming into this season.
The 2009 team had 190 receptions. Every WR and TE came back from 2008.
So what does it tell you that he regressed?
Again, does anyone want to address why Burbridge has regressed? Does he lack talent as well?
If you'd rather have Cook you haven't been paying attention. Both O'Conner and Terry have a LOT more upside

That sounds awfully similar to the 4th Q and OT sequence that Cousins had in his 35th game as a starter against Georgia last year (other than the TD play). Yet, we won both games.
QBs will have bad games, just like everyone else. Max hasnt been perfect, but he has played better than anyone on the offense other than Bell and Sims (2 future NFL players).
If he isn't at least possibly better than this, then Cook shouldn't be on the team next year, period.
He isn't, and he will be on the team next year.
Because they have that much faith in Cook?
Oh, OK. I'm glad you cleared that up for everyone.
So what do you think? Cook is going to either be the starter or off the team next year?
Maybe you are right but I doubt it.
Whats the point? Our staff wouldn't have given Johnny Manziel a look if we had him because maxwell is a Jr. with time learning the system. Thats not gonna change when Maxwell is a Sr. Terry won't even get a chance to prove himself.
Your average UofM fan and I have something in common, neither of us went to UofM. Though we do share One major difference, I got Accepted.
No, but if Maxwell is really hurt then Cook should be playing. Maxwell was terrible. If Cook can't beat that crap performance then he should be on the team.
Regardless, there should be a legit QB competition next year. Cook, O'Connor, I don't care but there has to be a better option.
