Northwestern has proximity to Chicago area recruits and bars, but wears purple and plays in a high school gym.
Minnesota has proximity to Scandinavian babes, but has a mascot that actually is a squirrel, and plays in a barn.
Is this suppose to be an example of a thread better than the "e-mail to my dad"? Because if it is, you failed.

I guess Minnesota, but it isn't a great job. I heard some alum talking the other day about courting Shaka Smart. I just about kicked him in the shins. Shaka Smart? I think Tubby was the man for the job. Every couple of seasons he would have them in the tourney and they would never be terrible. I have also heard they basically have made zero improvements to facilities since Tubby got there.
I think Minnesota has a higher ceiling...but that ceiling isn't all that high.
based on how fitzy is doing with the fball program, id take the northwestern job. if u can get them into the tourney, you're the savior and alums will pour the money in.
minnesota apparently won't spend any money on new facilities (northwestern will if the money is there from alums) and the expectations are through the roof, making the tourney isnt good enough there
The what thread? Never heard of it.
Minnesota because they've actually been to the tournament and have some history, however unimpressive it may be.
tRCMB - Visit at your own risk of being disgusted.
Minnesota and it's not even close.
Northwestern's strict academic standards, DIII-level facilities and non-existent fan/booster support makes that the toughest gig in the Big 10 by far.
Minny has at least SOME tradition and no other major in-state school to compete with. The barn is so damn old and cool it's actually a recruiting plus, imo.

Well Minnesota attracted players good enough to get to the Final Four in the mid 90's. They were smart enough to get into school. They cheated to keep them in school once they got in.
Not sure if they were too stupid to stick around without cheating or just lazy. Also recall Dutcher used to have a Michigan connection grabbing Trent Tucker

Northwestern. Minnesota fires you because they have delusions of grandeur.
Minnesota's better but that's not saying much. If we ranked the jobs in the Big 10, Minnesota would be middle of the pack or lower (somewhere around Wisconsin and Iowa but better than PSU, Nebraska, and Norhwestern).
Northwestern isn't getting any more money, regardless if they make the tournament. They only have 7,000 students, and just about all of the students / grads don't care at all about NU athletics. And most are not from Illinois, and move right after graduating. There are no plans in sight to make improvements to Welch-Ryan arena. If fact, from what I understand they could get a video board installed for little or no cost (right now they have something you'd see in a high school). But they cannot justify the cost to run it if they had one. Much more expensive than you'd think.
Minnesota is much more attractive.
Isn't Nebraska building a pretty sweet new arena? Not sure, but I think I heard something about that on this board. Not saying that would make them super attractive for a coach, but it should definitely help with recruiting and ticket sales.
Minnesota. Not close.
Maybe. My question is, how do you sell that school to a kid? In football, Fitzgerald can say, "hey kid, you can play B1G football along with a great education". Basketball, though, beyond the B1G, what if a kid comes in and has 2 schools on his list: Northwestern or Butler.....gee, which one will he pick?
I would argue that recruiting at Northwestern is probably harder than recruiting at decent schools in the A10 or MVC.
The problem is that you still have to convince a basketball player to come to Lincoln. Minneapolis is nicer.
The Cornhuskers start playing in Pinnacle Bank Arena next year. Northwestern and Minnesota will have the worst facilities in the Big Ten.
Minnesota no doubt. You are the only one in the state. Grab the top two kids every year and land one out of state under the radar top guy. Start developing and be a 9 seed forever with your occasional good year.
Better job, Northwestern or Duke?
northwestern is upgrading athletic facilities. it may not be directly to Welch-Ryan, but it certainly will help.
Northwestern's athletic facilities are about to get a much-needed upgrade.
Minny, but NW has more upside if you could find a way to win there and attract those Chicago recruits. Nobody's done it yet.

Minnesota, and it's not that close.
Minnesota could quite realistically be a Wisconsin-level program (note: I say "realistically", not "likely").
Northwestern has almost all the downsides of coaching at a school like Harvard (tough admissions, tough academics once you get in, lack of fan/alumni support, lack of monetary support for athletics) except that they can give scholarships, but playing against B1G competition instead of the Ivy League.
this is a pretty good counter point comparing the sports so +1
to Wade Garrett i submit this:
Have you watched a Northwestern game the last 13 years? Their roster is filled with Euros every season. You (it) can't see it failing ? It has ALWAYS failed.
Yes, the euros have typically been bad to so-so. Their best players Coble, Shurna, Crawford, and Thompson were homegrown.
And none of their best homegrown players could get NU to the tourney. I know they had some really shitty luck ( injuries) but still never made the dance. Northwestern is a terrible job, whomever takes it is committing career suicide.
How on earth is this a question? Did you not notice what they just did to Tubby?
Northwestern has reasonable expectations and you have the chance to be a god just by getting them into a tournament. If you took them to March and won a game...
