Yes, there was no more thunderous dunking or freakishly athletic moves from Cleaves after the accident. The Antonio Smith passing to Mateen Cleaves for the Alley Oop also died that day, IIRC.
Trust me, Bob Knight meant it with the worst intentions. He's always played by the book. It's personal, he despises the fraud five.
The will to succeed is important, but what's more important is the will to prepare.
Way to go Bob Knight. You always were a straight shooter.
Its not personal. Its about what they represented at the time, which wasn't a positive influence to the college game. And what makes it even more embarrassing, is how UM allowed their reckless , juvenile behavior to go on without any accountability. It wasn't until years later, with the discovery of impropriety that put the program in the toilet nationally. Knight is primarily focused on how these young little girls conducted themselves on the court.

So your spin NOW is comparing them to the Runnin Rebels? I'm sorry, but what team /program had the biggest level of impropriety in NCAA history and had vacated their final fours? And didn't UNLV win a title? A conference? Just askin'.........
Fact #1 about the Fab Five - Chris Webber kidnapped an unborn fetus straight out of a woman's placenta and sold it on the black market for money so he could buy new rims.
Fact #2 about the Fab Five - Steve Fisher housed a pet orangutan within the walls of Crisler Arena. It was caged, so he would kind of mess with it by showing it a banana and then urinating on it when it was sufficiently distracted.
Knibb High football rules
Even when tossing a chair on the court during a game
Michigan was cheating as early as 1985 when Ed Martin's name surfaced in the Terry Mills' NCAA infraction case.
More than a decade later, the athletic department at UofM was still sending recruits to Ed Martin's HOME during official recruiting visits... comping him tickets...paying for his hotel rooms during NCAA tourney runs...
Most schools have problems with Ed Martin types outside the program. Dirty coaches like Tressel will turn a blind eye to them; whereas UofM knowingly brought a notorious underworld criminal (illegal gambling ring) into their fold. They didn't even attempt to hide him--they flaunted him.
He also said they were a "disgrace" and involved in "the largest financial violation in amateur sorts history and an illustrious calamity for Michigan."
This article is full of fun quotes:
"The RCMB on 247 is one of the most awful, alarming, inappropriate, disgusting, and offensive msg boards in the history of the internet."
We all know that Izzo and Jud are not to fond of the fab 5 and since Knight was around during that time Im sure hes not either. The other coaches in the conference hated that group because they knew they were the biggest group of cheaters around. I'm positive that if any other B1G coach from that era were to be asked about them they would all express some type of disgust.
You know what else diminishes those 'accomplishments'?
tRCMB - Visit at your own risk of being disgusted.
Kids, this is why you shouldn't aspire to be "official fat guy fluffer" at swingers parties. It affects your reasoning ability.
"Those fans are in for a world of hurt...they've never gone up against a premium message board fan base like ours."-Vim
I've always admired Bob Knight's candor.
BS here. It IS useful punishment. And it remains useful because it allows the fans of rule abiding schools to demonize the accomplishments of cheaters. Without the demonization the NCAA has no teeth. Without the vacation the demonization has no teeth. ESPN is certainly not going to demonize cheaters. Hell, ESPN gives positive money making, recruit swaying press to a school that knowingly benefited a pedophile.
I know he was hurt, but it's kind of a stretch to say it cost him his freshman year.
Speaking of lip service, whatever happened at that Saginaw swingers party you went to?
But not just because they were cheatin'; because of the classless way they played. They were arrogant pigs, and thats being mild.
Mateen gained a bunch of weight after the accident and was a shell of himself throughout his Freshman year .Izzo was quoted many times that year saying Cleaves " was not the player we recruited." So while it didn't cost him his freshman year, it sure as hell affected it.
Michigan sucks, and was a disgrace to Big Ten basketball for close to 20 years. the Fab Five was the worst of it, but it goes back to Johnny Orr at the least and continued well after the Fab Five. I actually liked Jalen Rose as a player and still like him as a commentator, but that whole time period of Michigan basketball can burn in hell for all eternity for all I care.
I think we should take some of these people, and send 'em up to Bear Mountain for a picnic.
I wouldn't say that. It could even be argued that it cost Cleaves tens of millions of dollars.
His exceptional athleticism was stolen from him by the accident.
I am gravely disappointed. Again you have made me unleash my dogs of war.
yes, but in the pantheon of Great MSU teams there is the Flintstone era and the Magic era. Both won it all. The other final four teams are great to have, but we don't hold them up as the greatest teams ever. You never hear a spartan say that 2009 Spartan team is the greatest MSU team ever and a cultural icon...mostly because only idiots say things like that about teams that didn't win anything.

Your average UofM fan and I have something in common, neither of us went to UofM. Though we do share One major difference, I got Accepted.
are you a michigan fan or retarded...because sometimes its hard to tell while reading text.
I love how Knight ripped on his fellow ESPN employee
What is that, a Titleist? A hole in one...
I seem to remember him having a fairly good (if not great) college career. I'm not sure you could attribute his failure to last long in the NBA on that accident. But, like...you're entitled to your opinion, man.
