Not often to I say the refs caused someone to lose a game, but without question today's game was not won by IU. Atleast 10 possessions were taken away from us today. So sad cause what a game we played....although Trice is just god awful on D.
Classic Butler in the Final Four maneuver. Butler has an 8-1 foul advantage, crowd starts to boo the refs, then the refs call a slew of fouls on Butler away from the ball and rim that were not fouls in order to even the count and not hurt Butler, and then continue to let Butler hack the rest of the game.
bucknuts side with us it looks like
The refs today got MAYBE 10% of the close out-of-bounds calls right, for either team. Nothing malicious this afternoon, just gross incompetence.

I usually don't chime in, but you can't win this argument.
This was a game played at a NCAA tournament level. Indiana shot out of their minds and received more than their fair share of calls. Still, we were in it to the very end. I think if we continue on this pace of improvement, and stay healthy, then March is going to be very interesting.
Izzo is simply amazing. The Nix, Payne and Dawson frontcourt is the best we have had in many years. I can't wait for the Michigan game.
As an MSU fan I want to see IU navigate these last 6 road games without the refs help. At Illinois, Purdue, MSU, Michigan, OSU and Minnesota. Keep in mind they already lost at home to Wisconsin.
F that bald mother###### he looks like a diddler
stop acting like michigan fans
Gross incompetence called only one way is not gross incompetence.
Mike Kitts also was one of the refs @Iowa on Jan 10
Please, grow up. It was a great game and the Spartans came out on the short end. End of story, move on.
While I don't agree with the fantasy that MSU is habitually jobbed by the refs more than other schools (What on earth is the reasoning on why this would happen???), I do think we got the screwjob on this game.
Kentucky fans overwhelmingly agree as well.
I think the biggest problem is that there is such a big difference between refs. We just beat Wisconsin on the road where tackling was allowed on the court. Then tonight appling is charged with murder and moving your elbow is a sex crime. There is way too
much of a difference.
To die in ann arbor is redundant
I looked at my sons and told them at the 10 minute mark that State would get every foul call until the under 7 minute mark, and then wouldn't get another foul call the rest of the game. Big Ten conference game officiating has been the same for going on 15 years, it's a joke and reflects poorly on the game. the IU players were grabbing, pushing and shoving just as much (and in fact more) than the MSU players, it just wasn't called.
that said, the team fought hard and played very well, the difference in the game was the play of Trice. he made some nice plays on offense but his turnovers were killers and his defense was totally non-existent, he is completely unable to fight through on-ball screens. I thought Izzo switching Dawson on to Oladipo the last couple of possessions was brilliant.

I think we should take some of these people, and send 'em up to Bear Mountain for a picnic.
Izzo talked about being able to play both offense and defense and appling and Harris can do both, trice ... not so much.
Keeping the sunshiners in check since 2000.
There were some calls MSU got hosed on but after seeing how we played in Bloomington with Indiana's home court advantage and ref advantage we'll get them back at the Bres and beat them.
Yes Trice struggled, but so did Appling. The team had 18 turnovers. The one on Nix, the travel on Dawson early in the game on a fast break layup were bs. The 10 second call on Trice is being debated. Even if you take that one out, you just can't give IU fast break points like that. They were 11-0 at halftime with fast break points and Olidipo fueled it. He is a tough matchup any way. Make him work for his points. Trice had 5 turnovers and Appling had 4. There were some bad calls against us. Keep this turnovers to 12-13, and you get 5-6 more possessions which could have won the game.
the turnovers were tough, but Trice's defense was a much bigger problem. Valentine was also horrible on defense. Oladipo is indeed a tough matchup, but Trice's biggest problem was fighting through or under screens, where he gave up several 3's.
the key is fixing it before March, since Izzo has a very small rotation this season and we desperately need Trice and Valentine to play meaningful minutes.
It looked like there was a 2nd half adjustment - but a few mental lapses at the end of the first half were killer. The back to back 3's where Trice and Valentine just didn't even try to fight through the screen.
Having said that, it really hurts when the stripes take away multiple possessions, and multiple buckets.
We played well enough to win.
the final score to this game is irrelevant. this game showed that we are a national championship caliber team.
I think the biggest missed call in the entire game was when Home Depot set a screen on (ran full bore into) Nix to open the lane for Zeller to make it a 2 possession game with 1:39 left.
Fouls were only 18-13 in favor of IU, but free throw attempts were 20-6. It might be true they played a little more aggressively on offense but not that much. That was just a horribly called game by the officials. What really screwed us was Appling's 4th WTF foul call. No knock on Trice, but when he plays more minutes than Appling it's going to be tough to win big games.
I hope it's at least a little closer to fair when we play them at home.

I agree. Especially Appling having position with Ferrell initiating contact on the drive again and again.
We will handle business in the Breslin with IU. Appling and Dawson need to be better with the ball around Olidipo the next game. The team as a whole need to protect the ball better, but these 2 got Olidipo off early.
They got a couple of shooting fouls that were not in the act.
