my head tells me that if Gholson can play within himself, he has the skill set to give that defense some problems. NO, he's not as good as Manziel but he is mobile, pretty accurate and has great scrambling abililty. I would imagine Kelly is looking at the TAMU, LSU and UGA film real hard. The ND oline will have it's hands full but Bama had a couple injuries in the dline yesterday. I think ND can score 24 pts. on them.
On the other side of the ball, Bama's oline is simply overpowering. They ran for 350 yds vs. UGA yesterday which has 9 solid future NFL'ers on it's defense. That said, the ND front 7 has been damn good this year, especially against the run. Still, McCarron is a winner and I think with Lacy, Yeldon, Cooper and that line he will engineer 27-30 pts. Add one score on special teams for Bama and they win by about 10-13 pts.
IF the game was being played next weekend I'd give ND a very good shot as Bama is banged up. However, Saban has 5 weeks to prepare and I just can't go against him. Thoughts?
Fighting Bear Bryant's 50- drooling Louth holtzses death.
I wouldn't go that far.
Georgia's rush defense ranks 80th in the country. They aren't particularly stout in that department.
Should be a good game, and if ND is anything over a 9 point dog, I'll probably take them. The Bama o-line vs the ND d-line will be the battle to watch.

If Gholson can make plays vertically like Manziel did then ND will cause chaos. If he is more Denard Robinson than Johnny Football, the Domers will need a huge day from their D to win.
The injuries yesterday shouldnt be an issue a month from now and may allow us to get a few additional guys back as well, so advantage Bama there.
This will be a good game, maybe not as good as the hype that will lead up to it, but a good game.
If the bama running backs play like they did against Georgia......good god Bama will make it rain
To die in ann arbor is redundant
I happen to think he's MUCH closer to Manziel that 'arm punt' Robinson but I know a lot of guys on this board disagree. Gholson is a winner...doesn't look great all the time but he knows how to win with his elusivity and throwing ability.
I've seen 5 ND games this year and he does have a tendency to get rattled at times. Normal for a 19 yr. old I suppose. Kelly will yank him and put Rees in for a play or three and the kid comes back good as new. HATE ND, but I have to give props to Gholson: we didn't lay a finger on him in our game because he's simply coached to throw it away when there is no play to be made. A simple, novel concept that most every OC in college football tries to teach to their QB's but so few can actually apply it on the field.
I'm pretty sure you're a closet ND fan.
jebus man....gimme a break....can't stand their asses. My mason bro in law is a huge dollar store domer....tattoo on shoulder and all. Kelly is a total POS but the Gholson kid is for real IMO. I can give props without being a fan. He was very good against us and many other teams this year. IMpressive for a 19 yr. old especially...I'm hoping Terry or O'connor have similar ability in what they bring to the table next year
PS: NO I'm not catholic...

What team did ND play that has the speed of Bama? This game will be decided in the second half. It will get ugly. I expect ND's D to be whooped by the 4th 1/4.
I said 10-13 pt. bama win, could be more: especially if bama gets turnovers. The thing that amazes me in watching the domers this year is this: NO siginificant injuries on either side of the ball on the interior lines and they hardly EVER turn the ball over: damn lucky, damn good, or both.
Oklahoma has a lot of team speed. But Bama beats you by wearing you down in the trenches. ND is one of the few teams in the country that can match their physicality in the trenches. Bama should win, but I'd be surprised if it was a blowout.
Both teams have great defenses. Only one has a good offense.
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
My issue with ND is they seemed to play down to the level of competition sometimes and thus just IMO don't look like a national title type team but they made it this far so kudos to them I guess. But when you beat BYU by 3, played an average USC team close for most of the game, needed 3OT to pull out a miracle against Pitt it makes you wonder how great they really are. I think ND's defense has been terrific this year I just think between watching them and Alabama, Alabama LOOKS like the most talented college football team in America. Their O-Line is massive, they have a QB with big game experience, good RBs and a solid defense. They crushed the bad teams and found a way to beat most of the good ones. ND has a great defense but I really think Bama will just wear them down with their speed and size.
This guy breaks it down....
Notre Dame vs Alabama in the National Champiohship game

Agree that ND's defense is built to play a team like Bama. They won't shut them down but should limit them. It will be strength vs strength in that department.
ND's offense I think will have trouble. ND does not have great WRs to stretch the field, and Bama has physical CBs and safeties that can match Eifort or other ND TEs that are flexed out. ND will struggle to score, I would feel better about their chances if their run game was more physical.
Prediction: Bama 28 - ND 10
solid post...I'll stick with Bama 34 and ND 24 ish......but the fact Kelly has put those fuckers squarely back on the map in 3 years is stunning and nauseating. Christ, it's the easiest place to recruit in the whole country outside the SEC and now this? Matter of time before the fat fuck wins a NC.....
Those 24 points for ND would have to include a defensive or special teams score. I do not believe their offense can break 20 on Bama straight up.
ND hasn't faced a defense as fast as 'Bama's all year. They also haven't faced a team as deep at RB as 'Bama.
$lick Nick will use his road grating O-Line to wear ND's D-line and linebackers out with long drives. That will also keep Gholston off the field.

You ever seen an elephant rape a leprechaun? It ain't pretty.
I would be shocked if ND's O can do much in this game. In most games I would say Kelly has a coaching advantage but not against Saban.
Notre Dame is once again the underdog, which is where they've played their best
Yes, Alabama ran all over Georgia last night, but the announcers pointed out that Georgia was not a good run-defense team several times throughout the game. Notre Dame on the other hand has been a very good run-defense team.
Golson, unlike Arm-punt, has actually improved throughout the year and can actually pass the ball. He does not have the running ability that Manziel does, but he does have smooth feet and the ability to extend plays.
Alabama's defense is pretty darn good, but it is not great. Yes, Saban has 5 weeks to prepare, but so does Kelly.
What I'll be interested to see is how ND's secondary performs. I don't think Alabama's receivers are better than USC's, and I definitely don't think McCarron is as good as Landry Jones. ND played well against both of them.
However, the biggest key to the game IMO will be whether or not ND can actually convert red-zone opportunities into TDs. USC was able to hang around in that game because ND had to settle for FGs, and Herbstreit made it sound like that's been a problem all season long for the Irish
now THIS is the domer HOMER of the board boys.....you had some decent pts. until you said: "I definately don't think McCarron is as good as Landry Jones".....put down the crack pipe
This is entertaining... I'm an MSU student, yet I've been accused of being both a Walverine AND a "domer homer"... Cute.
Put it this way, if Landry Jones and AJ McCarron switched teams, who do you think would have more success?
I don't know how anyone could argue that statement to be honest. Landry is going to get drafted in the top 2 rounds I bet. McCarron? Maybe the 7th.
Oh and there are some fun match ups in this one when Bama has the ball. Barrett Jones against Nix inside and Lacy/Yeldon vs Teo when they collide in a hole.
You would think Bama is the much better team, but at the same time ND it seems like ND has been at their best this year when people doubted them. Should be entertaining.
Did I miss something? Why does everyone misspell "Golson"?
