Any chance Dantonio has decided to take over the play calling duties, and Bollman will work primarily with the offensive line (as well as obviously game planning and scheming with Dantonio)?
Take it for what it's worth but doesn't sound like he's confirmed as OC. From Chris Vannini.
My day job, CoachingSearch.com, broke the story this morning that former Ohio State offensive coordinator Jim Bollman will join the MSU football staff.
It's unclear at the moment if Bollman will be the offensive coordinator, but this is Mark Dantonio going all-out on Tresselball. Bollman was Tressel's OC in Columbus, and Mark Dantonio spent some time as DC. Bollman and Dantonio also spent time under Tressel at Youngstown State and under Nick Saban at MSU.
Wow. Sounds like we settled. Why are we hiring an OSU re-trend? "Three yards and a cloud of dust" type play-calling. With the majority of his connections in Ohio, this hire does not expand our recruiting reach. Not a very dynamic recruiter either. Not sure this is an upgrade. The hire will not help us in the Drake Harris sweepstakes. My walverine friends are giddy about this hire.
And he just tweeted again, that MSU is still not confirming.
The only person to confirm this yet is Hondo.. but if true, yikes.
Obviously we have to take what OSU fans say with a grain of salt. Tressel was untouchable because he won a NC, so like any fan base I'm sure they found a scapegoat for disappointing seasons.
A lot of the chatter seems to be similar to what we heard about Roushar: "Bollman was OC during the greatest offensive year in OSU history, but that was really Tressel's doing" sounds like their equivalent of "Roushar was OC during the greatest offensive year in MSU history, but that was really Cousins' doing."
Hard to imagine a more credible source.
This is not a homerun. I keep hoping this is a joke.
Guy hates recruiting, and is downright lazy at it. He is touted as an OL guru but his lines at OSU always underachieved. His one year calling the plays (2011) at OSU was probably the worst offense I have ever seen there.
Dantonio better start recruiting great punters

They are probably trying to do it through proper channels because Bollman is at Purdue, and you want to do things the right way when it involves taking a coach from one of your conference foes.
He was a lazy recruiter and terrible OC.
The ONLY reason most were happy to Tressel go was because we wanted Bollman fired years ago.
We had way too much talent to be as bad as we were on offense under him. Dude to his lack of drafted OL, we struggled recruiting that position.
I don't care if a 3rd grader is running the offense. It's Ohio State, a team with top 10 talent. Ohio State also had a freshman at QB in 2008 and was 69th in total offense. A drop off is expected, but not bottom 20.
I'm going to be optimistic that we hired bollman as a position coach and Salem or someone is getting promoted to OC
That would be your best hope. :)
You seem to make a lot of broad generalizations and predictions about someone you knew nothing about until 20 minutes ago and still know little about.
I don't think talent was a problem at OSU. But let me guess, your Twitter sources say they got all of that talent in spite of Bollman?
Less than excited about this if true.
A man's gotta eat!
Stop trolling, please.
Yes, he was not very good
I am just saying he is a horrible hire.
That is not trolling
I'm pretty sure I remember lurking the OSU board during the '11 season and chuckling as they lost their minds at Bollman for being a godawful OC.
So....yeah...please don't be true.
Mods are going to need to be quick on their feet in this thread. Buck trolls going to start taking on this thread with AUTHORITY.
I hope this is a successful hire, because if not Dantonio is going to be on the hot seat very soon. If we have a bad year (6-7 wins) again, then go into 2014 with more questions then answers, he could be gone.
Michigan State University is the university of Michigan
Now it's everyone? Not just the entire BigTen?
Was Morris Watts not interested?
