Um, the offense scored enough points to win yesterday. Then the defense got railed.
Actually it was a major issue down the stretch. The Lions had zero way of getting a first down from 3rd and 5 or longer other than throw it at Megatron and pray. The Colts db's (who are terrible) didn't even attempt to cover Thomas and Logan.
The offense scored 10 points in the second half against the 24th best scoring defense in the league (Detroit's 25th btw) and that gives up more passing yards per game than Detroit. Once Scheffler got ko'd, Stafford basically locked in Megatron because he had zero faith in anyone else. That was a problem.
I watched and thought it was more an issue of the play calling.
We have Megatron, Pettigrew, Leshoure, and Smith who can flex at WR.
And Scheffler. They split him out wide a ton.
Pettigrew can't catch and Stafford knows it (not to mention that he had to stay back to block with Scheffler's issues). I really think Linehan had no idea what to when Broyles went down and Indy finally realized that Detroit had no one other than Megatron that could catch passes.
Did Stafford throw it to him at all after the helmet shot?
Stafford has had awful technique this season. I don't know if that's a result of poor offensive line play but the guy has been throwing off his back foot an awful lot this year. It's like he's developing Barry Sanders Syndrome, where he is getting disheartened by the Lions' ineptitude.
Pettigrew is incredibly streaky. He made an outstanding catch for his touchdown. He seemed to be on point yesterday.
Broyles already came back from ACL surgery and was becoming a clutch possession receiver. There's no need to think he won't come back from this. He's a solid NFL receiver. And by the way both were 2nd round pics not 1st round. The first round picks were Reiff and Fairley who have shown to be quality players, especially Fairley.
He also had two drops in the 2nd half yesterday.
The sidearm stuff worries me more. It didn't hurt him too badly yesterday but one of these days, he's going to throw a pick 6 with that motion.
Look at Stafford's numbers this year. He's completing 60% of his passes and has thrown for over 3700 yards with 16 TD's and 11 int's.Those are fine numbers. Take out the Green Bay game and he's looking damn good.
Suh is not garbage. What a crock of shit. He's still one of the most feared DL in the game. He's constantly double teamed.
I think there are some uninformed loathers in this thread
Suh had a sack and 4 TFL yesterday, maybe one of the best games of his career. He has 5.5 sacks this season from the DT spot, that's very good.
I have been extremley critical of Suh, but the last 3 games he has been the player we drafted for.
Yeah one of the major reasons that Luck threw those picks was because Suh and Fairley were making it impossible for Luck to step into the pocket and throw the bomb.
I do wish we'd play Suh at defensive end more often. Wonder why we don't.
Why does that matter? I have seen no change in accuracy from it. I think it was before MNF where Jaws I believe was breaking down his mechanics. It was a good piece until he showed the "good mechanics" which was a total back foot sidearm strike in the endzone.
Stafford is a gunslinger improv QB. As long as he thinks it's the right delivery for the job, I don't think it's a problem. I do think he overuses it though for sure.

I really hope nobody here thinks the Lions should use a 1st or 2nd round pick on a receiver.......
Location: Mumbai, India
but they probably will
Aqib Talib was a great pick.
