Kid at my work said he heard a rumor Weber would join MSU's staff as an assistant coach. Has anyone else heard this rumor? It would definitly help lock up Jabari Parker if true saying Weber is good friends with Parker's family.
You would have heard it here before a "kid at your work".
Izzo would be suspended for employing friends of recruit.
Matt Painter and NCAA
Bruce will have an opportunity to be a head coach at the D1 level if he wants... With the buyout though, he won't need the money. I could maaaaaaaybe see it. Would definitely be a huge pull for Izzo if he landed Bruce and then Parker after.

Does this mean that one of the assistants (most likely Stephens) will be leaving to take a head coaching job?
Bruce is totally going back to SIU.
Why does it seem like whenever a D1 head coach (football or basketball) gets fired, someone on this board asks if they might join MSU's staff as an assistant coach or towel boy?
Am I hallucinating here Mr. Spicoli? Just what in the hell do you think you're doing?
I could see it happening after listening to this
A "kid at your work heard a rumor." Sounds legit.

lol so less than 24 hours after being fired he is already gonna have an assistant job lined up?

There's no birthday party for me in here.
...beyond a stretch of Maryland pines there's a river without a name.
I would be surprised, I don't think Weber will have much trouble getting a D1 job. Plus, a spot would have to open up on MSU's staff, meaning one of the current assistants would have to leave:
Garland - at this point, I get the feeling that he's happy being an assistant at MSU and probably won't seek another head coaching job. I'm not sure why I have that feeling, I think it was an interview I saw with him within the last couple months, where he just didn't seem to be interested in being a head coach again.
Fife - I definitely think he'll be a head coach again someday, I don't think this is the year. I think he'll be at MSU another 2-3 years and then will leave for a pretty good job.
Stephens - I have no idea about his head coaching prospects, but my guess is that he may need to be the top assistant for another year or 2 before schools come after him hard.
We are not the same, I am a Spartan
Ryan Mallett is headed to UCLA! You heard it here first!
There's a zero percent chance of this happening, unless Stephens or Fife gets an HC job. Fife probably isn't going to leave for less than 500k, probably more (Monty got 300k per year at NIU), and who would hire Stephens when they can hire Fife?
And then why would Bruce Weber take an 85%+ pay cut to be another former HC on Izzo's bench? Idk how much ESPN pays its analysts, but he's a much more household name than Dakich.
How would this work, some kind of Fife/Weber trade?
This....he can afford to do that and enjoy coaching again. Good coach and nice guy who doesn't cheat so couldn't recruit Chicago...he needed and Ed Martin to take care of that like he did at scUM.
Come on guys, seriously. Besides Izzo having to ask one of his assistants to step aside we don't know the specifics of the Weber buyout. He is owed millions but depending on how its written if he gets another job Illinois may not have to pay the entire amount. Besides that Southern Illinois (The place he made a name for himself) has an opening. That makes more sense.
kids at his work have all types of info...they were the first to learn that Whitney Houston died, days before we heard about it.
This will end well
I relayed what I heard on WSCR 670 am yesterday about this in a different thread: they said Reggie Theus is in the mix and was seen with Jabari Parker last week...Dan Bernstein has alot of credibility with me and flat out said "the alums and boosters are demanding a black head coach." FWIW
Quick, someone add Bruce Weber's name to the "list of potential Izzo successors" thread.

Yeah, this has been widely reported. Is there any rule against a coaching candidate recruiting a player? Illinois has so many great options to be their HC right now, I'd probably want to stick to the guys who have done a lot at the college level. No need to pick up the dirty laundry, just because a top recruit might be involved. Parker is a game-changer, but Theus has 3 1/2 years of HC experience, of which only 1 was a good season.
Honestly, I'd love to see Theus as the Illini coach if he doesn't get Parker. He'd flame out pretty quickly.
Jerry Sandusky was fired. I am sure he would be a good towel boy.
