Three point shot regressed, he's a turnover machine, and his leadership is questionable.
Not living up to his 4-star ranking.
It's time to face the facts, Purdue fans. Painter really whiffed on this guy. IU should be glad he chose Purdue. Getting arrested and then regressing as a player shows that he's more interested in the life of thug than the life of a student athlete. The guy will probably be in jail this time next year.
Why troll this?
He will need to play 3 positions at once next year because Payne, Appling and Dawson are goners after this season..NBA bound.
If DJ Byrd transfers from Purdue to MSU, he'd have to sit out next year and pay his own way. With his lack of production, and his history of arrests and suspensions, Izzo wouldn't take him anyway. He's right where he belongs on a Matt Painter Purdue team.
Painter doesn't provide enough structure and is an ass. Not surprised Byrd is struggling in that environment.
His player development has been terrible. Don't give me the injury excuses bullshit. I don't care that he lost 2 years of development due to injury; Hummel should have been a B1G player of the year during his final season. Terrible job Painter did with that kid.
Focusing on things at home, it ain't just Byrd. The ugly, unspoken truth in Spartan Land is that the majority of Izzo's recruits over the last few seasons have underperformed compared to expectations/billing. Throw in some attrition...
Izzo's coaching and G. Harris are what's keeping this team afloat right now.
While the mods here like to control the message, you can read all about it elsewhere. There's a reason MSU basketball is a "sell' right now.
Appling - talented 2, playing out of position due to necessity.
Nix - underperformed.
Payne - inconsistent, underperformed.
Byrd - enough said.
Trice - solid.
Gauna - underperformed.
The list is long.

I always type (The) in emails when I mean (They). The problem is that even when I proof read the email, my brain reads the as they and it goes out uncorrected.
Anyone else have similar issues. It sucks how the brain can trick you sometimes.
Half the posters in this thread are not in on the joke.
Psssst. Read the OP all the way through.

Whats the truth? Your truth?
You just stumbled upon the realization that all highly rated players for a myriad reasons don't match their HS ratings?
I see what you did there
"If you're worried about Wolverine fans, just move to Pasadena. You'll never have to deal with 'em."
This thread is a good filter to find out which posters you should ignore. Certain posters just want to type their thoughts on an issue and don't read what anyone else has to say.

Jesus. People don't get this yet?
The kid played on the Breslin court 8 days ago. See the game?
Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.
Well Byrd was pretty solid last year.
Scout listed Byrd (class of '10) as a 6'7" / 195 lb. SG who was offered by MSU (Izzo), IU (Crean), UK (Calipari) and umaa (Beilein) and signed his LOI in Nov '09. All of those coaches have history of identifying talent.
I see a player who got started late due to injuries and has never caught up to playing against others who are at least his height and whose other skills have progressed because they weren't rehabbing injuries. In HS there aren't a lot of opposing players who can play good perimeter defense against a 6'7" shooter. On the AAU circuit defense if often barely there.
Byrd hasn't progressed in multiple facets of his game. Its too bad. Sometimes life isn't fair. Dahlman set scoring records in Minnesota and couldn't break into the playing group at MSU.
Re-read the original post.
GRR doesn't read. He writes and we learn. Even if he's babbling nonsense that has nothing to do with this thread.
Well said. +1
No, you shut up!
My Whiskey Blog
I was watching the Journey on BTN and Izzo said Appling wouldn't be the player he is today without Byrd's leadership. Byrd helped him last year a ton apparently...
Purdue players helping MSU players? I smell BS.
