Before I say anything, let's get the "I'm an idiot" out of the way. I'm an idiot.
Was fed up with giving Comcast $170 per month. Got sucked in by ATT&T Uverse and, as it turns out, after getting close to Comcast level package, I'm not saving much money. Plus I already hate UVerse...and it was installed last weekend.
Is there a typical guarantee with these things where I can do something within 30 days? Anyone have any experience? I don't want to pay another $200 to get out of the deal, but I'm ready to go back to Comcast with my hat in hand. I don't want to go through a bunch of legal reading.
Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience.
What package / features do you have? That seems like a lot. You should be able to back out before 30 days but I assume they will give you trouble if its been awhile. If you didn't already pay comcast they may wave the fee if you come back and you talk to someone that can do that. ( not positive just a guess/something to try)
Talk them down. We have 5 TVs U200 and 16MB internet and pay $125. Bill had snuck up to $199 and I emailed them and said I wanted the $7 per box taken off and a promo on either tv or internet so he gave me $20something off the internet and all of our boxes for free.
Also what don't you like about Uverse? After switching from Comcast a little over a year ago we haven't had a single complaint.

switch to directv?
I switched 4 years ago this January 6th. Saved $60 a month, after having Comcast for 25 years(no choice!). Try to work with AT&T please. Even the non-HD channels look Super!
Comcast is the worst company I have ever dealt with, but AT&T hasn't been able to match the deal I am getting.
What did AT&T tell you when you called and asked them this question?
Recently got Wow! Ultra TV package and am quite happy with it.
Are you a salesman? Semi-serious.
U-Verse >>>>> Comcast. I'm paying some ridiculously low amount for U200 and 25MB internet.
tRCMB - Visit at your own risk of being disgusted.
WOW is my new cable provider now that they bought out Broadstripe. According to their web site Ultra TV isn't available in mid-Michigan.
I'd also add that lately their digital signal has sucked ass at night - will have to call in today to see if they are conducting service in the evenings or if something else is afoot.
Call and ask for a reduction. Unverse just gave my buddy $60 off his bill by asking for it and threatening to leave. You can practically name your price if you have other alternatives in your area (which it sounds like you do)
I am so glad I have FiOS. Feel bad for you guys who only can choose crappy Comcast or crappy AT&T.
Ha ha. No. Just a satisfied customer.
I don't understand the hate for Uverse. I've had it for ever a year and haven't had any problems. As others have said its practically name your price.
Wow some of you guys are paying premium dollars for the indoctrination of your family and yourselves. Ditch the cable TV. Keep your internet.
Having worked for Nielsen TV ratings in my past, my discovery rate for homes with a TV is over 99%. Nielsen TV ratings is the longest ongoing study of television use in history.
Here is a little critical thinking exercise I wrote:
Imagine for a moment if I hypnotized you... (Watch the watch, watch the watch, watch the watch) Poof. You are under. You've seen somebody hypnotized right? They will do incredible things.
Ok now imagine If I made you do hypno tricks EVERY night. Stand right next to me now and imagine you on the couch doing your silly things I told you to do. Sure, your family and friends had a good laugh. we were all entertained, but in the end you would hate me for making you do it night after night after night. Admit it, you would right?
Ok now imagine me as your television.
5-6 outlets control every idea, storyline, fashion statement, opinion, "fact" and cultural aspect you incorporate into your lexicon of beliefs. Remember that.
The indoctrinated will no longer be able to deny it, only defend it.
WTF are you talking about?
Take more drugs, you seem to need them.

"The RCMB on 247 is one of the most awful, alarming, inappropriate, disgusting, and offensive msg boards in the history of the internet."
I'm sure many of you were patiently waiting what decision I'd made. U-Verse sucked. It froze five different times during the games yesterday. Called them and said I wanted to switch, that my wife hated it. Was within a 30-day window, so they cancelled no problem. Called back Comcast and they knocked about $35 off my bill.
So now I'm paying about $130 for cable, internet and a home phone I'll never hook up.
Wife is happy. I still hate all cable companies.
I can now understand why everyone hates Comcast's customer service. Recently moved and was told I was getting Digital Preferred TV and Performance Plus internet at $86.89 for 12 months. Got it installed and its the fucking Economy internet. Been on the phone for an hour now and they just ship me to different departments. Most recent guy told me I can get the internet I want for $30 more per month when they offer the same package + HBO and Streampix for $99. Fucking assholes.
This solution doesn't make sense to me.
I'm not against going to the bar for big games, but if you do it more than once per month, you're pretty much guaranteed to blow any savings from ditching cable in the first place. Not only that, but if you simply want to watch a game in the comfort of your own home, you're now stuck watching a low-quality feed off a pirated website on a lapper. No thanks.
And I actually watched the bowl game at my house with some friends and had a great time.
