I remember loving the John Bellairs gothic series:
Remind yourself. Nobody built like you, you design yourself.
I will use this as the example, but I read pretty much every Matt Christopher book growing up.
Edit: +1 to izzone89 for beating me to the punch.

Don't post poop!
Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read. - Groucho Marx
Oh yeah, because there is an unusual number of people in this country having sex with AMPUTEES!

The Politics, Republic, and Leviathan were my favorites. You know, the usual kids stuff.
The follow up to this book is awesome: The House with the cock in the stalls. Must read for every young boy.
That book, and the after school special, scared the living crap out of me. I'm not sure I want to read his stuff even now.
Ping, the communist duck.

Goosebumps and Matt Christopher books, oh yeah
Also enjoyed Calvin and Hobbes and the Redwall series.
tRCMB - Visit at your own risk of being disgusted.
It is not Riki Tiki.
You're confusing Rikki-Tikki-Tavi with Tikki Tikki Tembo, two completely different stories written 74 years apart.
I read the news today, oh boy .. ..
About a lucky man who made the grade
Good call. Riki Tiki Tavi was one bad mongoose!
Oh snap I remember those Matt Christopher books, I read every single one of those things. Do kids still read those things these days? Man every time it was "free reading time" at school...I was reading his stuff.
Nowadays I never get to read for pleasure so I was actually more well-read as an elementary schooler reading sports based novels.
