Pat Fitzgerald learned what Dantonio has (hopefully) learned after 3 losses in this fashion......RUN THE CLOCK OUT AND DON'T GET CONSERVATIVE AND PUNT!!!!! YOU "vil" LOSE! (Drago from Rocky IV).
so you wanted him to go for it on 4th and 15+ with 27 seconds to go?

this. Fitz went for it on 4th and 1 when most coaches (including our own) would punt. Stupid thread, sorry.

Don't punt a line drive straight at the return man. That armpunt was attempted 30 yards closer than it should have been.
Might have been game over if they just kicked it deep through the end zone.
No. I wanted them to not go into an "offensive shell" and play conservative to ultimately punt the ball. If they'd called plays like they had been for the entire game they wouldn't have been in a 4th and 15 situation to begin with. Northwestern's last possession of regulation and their possession in overtime was like a different coordinator was making the calls. You must go all out and continue to play aggressive in order to get these first downs with the clock expiring. MSU and NW seem to go into "prevent offense" mode during these stretches, which never bodes well, and almost always results in a punt with time (no matter how little) left on the clock.
Yup. Punter choked.
Did he try to pin them and accidentally kicked it right to him? I'm surprised he didn't try to sky punt it and get Norfleet to FC it.

Like when MSU threw the ball on 2nd down deep in their territory at UM and stopped the clock for them? How did that work out?
The decision to punt was correct. The decision to pooch punt it into the corner was terrible.
But I read here that Roushar cost us the michigan game by throwning on 2nd down instead of handing off to Bell.
I guess I'm just not smart enuf to understand this football sport thingy.
Playing conservatively in hopes of running out the clock, punting and playing prevent defense = sure loss.

Fitz played this EXACTLY as you should. He went for it on 4th and 1 and got it. That's the right call. Then he punted on 4th and 15 with 20 seconds remaining. Also the right call. In theory, you are VERY unlikely to convert a 4th and long. Likewise, michigan is VERY unlikely to move the ball into FG range with 20 seconds and no timeouts when they have it on their own 15 yard line.
Unfortunately his punter completely blew it and then michigan came down with one of it's patented arm punt catches.
Right, what good can come of that?
Goddamned Wisconsin punter
Armpunt???? I would say Gardner was slightly better than "Armpunt".
Ughhh is this going to be the thing now? UM is going to win a natty champ next year because Gardner is so much better than their best offensive player since Braylon?
