What would Wiltfong say?
I hope so, considering the best one so far was the one they inherited from JLS.
Conklin could be one of those Joe Staley/Eric Fischer type finds at LT. He appears to have a lot of athletic ability and prototypical size and length. Would love to see him develop into a 1st round pick.
He did a good job on Rush too. OTs usually aren't blocking DTs, so his performance against Hoover isn't a huge deal either way.
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
Narduzzi said that after they looked at film of last year it was apparent that Hoover was our best DT.
I mean, I trust his opinion and maybe I was just so used to seeing Worthy make ridiculous plays that I overlooked Hoover a lot. It just seems like he's a steady DT, but I hardly ever jump out of my seat because of a great play he makes. Part of that is the MSU system though. The DE's make a lot of plays on the outside and the DT's chew up the interior line which allows for Bullough, Allen, and Taiwan Jones to make plays from the linebacker position.
Trust me, I'm glad Hoover is back for one more year as a steady influence on the defensive line overall

2014 Line looks to have good potential if everyone stays healthy
Depth looks scary with Dennis being the only upperclassmen backup. McGowan, Higgins, and Kieler better be ready to step up in there sophomore year and be solid backups.
Not to place the horse in front of the cart BUT- maybe, howbouts we allow him to work into the starting line-up first, maybe garner an All B10 mention, before we have him measured for a hideous NFL HOF jacket.
laying in the weeds
Worthy was a big special in that regard. His pass rush presence was off the charts, but sometimes he would overpursue and leave running lanes open.
Narduzzi's defense is based on building a wall with the front 4, and letting the LBs and safeties clean things up. The 2012 DL did a great job of that, which is why we still had a top 10 defense despite offered basically 0 pass rush.
Conklin has a high football IQ.
Did you know that he plays on MSU's football and basketball team? And he fled Liberia as a child.
Now if he only had a running back
"I think the world is run by C students"
Even if you are right about Hoover, a redshirt freshman who hasn't seen the field yet who can properly block a " average " big ten d-lineman is still a reason for fan notice, optimism and praise.
