Craft is a game-changer and makes that team tick. It's not really about how GOOD he is. He and his hands are a disruptive force on defense and is a matchup problem with his size and uncalled ever-present off-arm. His skill set is nothing special. but his impact is pretty much as advertised.
This is so true. I'm glad I didn't have some message board that I knew of to go and see people critique everything I did.
But I would go ahead and extend that to "God no, no PERSON should read Spartan Tailgate!"
Wells Hall is pretty much the "van down by the river" for threads
This definition of overrated sucks. Who cares what people THOUGHT he would do? Overrated is current popular opinion vs. current actual performance. I don't really know what people think of Zeller now, but Oladipo has most of the hype at this point.
Agree with you about Zeller. But Craft is legit.
Well, if this thread was about a white player who plays hard and scores some points in most games and can play defense because he bumps (read runs over), hand checks and pushes off (read HOLDS every time), and gets knocked down (read FLOP), well then, yes he's a good player.
Nίκη για MSU
So you're saying the word overrated is overrated?
People arguing about who gets too much/ too little media attention are really tiresome.
I don't know how anyone can have watched any OSU game in the last 3 years and not think Craft has a huge impact on the game.

I think Craft gets attention because he's a fantastic college PG. They lost their best players, have only one legit scorer and OSU is still a tough team to beat. Craft manages the game exceptionally well.
I also hate the timing of the article. It comes across as complete sour grapes when MSU's lead writer at the LSJ posts this the day after getting beat up by OSU in Columbus. I can hardly stand to read the guys stuff anymore. Clearly he's a big step down from Rexrode.
I wasn't, but I would agree with that.
Zeller's not the player of the year, but he's still very good. Still the center-piece on offense for the best team in the country. Still All-American I would guess, but am not sure. I guess he was "over-rated" but what does that even mean? If you are the pre-season player of the year, there's a very good chance you'll end up "over-rated". #math
Craft is very, very good. He changes the game on defense and he's solid enough on offense and he plays a boat-load of minutes. Maybe (probably, definitely) he should get called for more fouls, but that's not his fault. That's on the officials.
Even if he's only second best to the player of the year? That seems to be a bit of a stretch.
I read that Sunday morning. I agree. He seems like a great kid and is a great competitor. He's also a good defender. OSU wins games because of him, and I think they would have lost against MSU if he didn't make very timely plays.
That's a big credit, but he's not in the same league as Burke and Oladipo. Nor Appling minus his current two-game slump. No way. I do think he gets a whitey bump. I also think he gets calls because of his rep as a scrappy white kid playing that roll. That's not hating because I'd be thrilled if MSU had someone just like him.
Walton comparison is fair, except on leadership. Walton was one of the best leaders to come through East Lansing.
My Whiskey Blog
I too hate the "over-rated" concept. Almost as much as the race card.
and is a two time academic all american. Craft also averages a steal per game more than Walton over his career (almost twice as many). The comparison to Walton is ignorant. I know people have a very rosy view of Walton, but Craft is better.
I thought I read this in the paper Sunday, but maybe I'm mistaken. If it was, it was a part of the pre-game coverage and they just didn't get it online until Monday.
If that's the case it was just a really bad jinx job.
That is stupid. Just because Oladipo is having a fantastic year doesn't mean Zeller is underrated.
That's just because Craft gets away with more reaches, you know, because he's white.
As far as offense, I think they both were limited but had a knack for making a play when needed. Walton's game got better particularly his senior year, as I remember. I do agree that Craft has been better, but I don't think that invalidates the comparison. Both are/were defensive role players with limited offense, but Craft is a media darling for some reason.
Zeller is good but he also gets a lot of
Minutes. If Payne got his minutes he would have similar stats.
I don't get Why people hate on craft. He is good. Better Than Walton because he can shoot and Walton was a great spartan.
Appling has improved his defense but is not as good as craft. He gets beat off of the dribble to much and reaches.
Part of it is learning how to use your body and positioning. You can play physical you just can't reach and appling reaches too much.
The reason for his bump is he is off the charts for some new stats that attempt to calculate turnovers caused (I have to try and find it). Aaron Craft has also made Trey Burke his personal bitch on multiple occasions.
Burke averages 13.2 ppg, 5 assists, 4.4 turnovers, and 36% from the field vs. Ohio State and Craft.
I can't wrap my head around people thinking Appling is far and away a better PG than Craft. Just because he averages more points? Craft plays slightly less minutes, scores 9.8 ppg to applings 13.4, but Appling averages less assists, less steals, and more turnovers per game than Craft does. AND Craft supply's 95% of the energy on that team. As he showed us Sunday, he can score too. OSU just plays a style where they call for a PG that plays defense well, moves the ball around and creates open shots for others. Craft and Appling are in the same class.
Ok, never mind Olidipo - I still don't think Zeller is in the conversation for player of the year.
Walton regressed as the years went on. He couldn't even hit free throws his senior year. Like I said, I think some people have a rather rosy picture of Walton that isn't true. His sophomore year was his best year offensively.
And what would the call have been if it were Nix who did that? People would have been screaming attempt of murder!
