Looks like one school hasn't learned from it's past, and is doomed to repeat it. 0-4 in their coaching search. Yeah, that should send a strong message to those 3 recruits the new AD has a hard-on over and fired Tubby in the hopes of landing them.
"Minnesota had also targeted Virginia Commonwealth's Shaka Smart, Iowa State's Fred Hoiberg and Butler's Brad Stevens to no avail, with Smart and Hoiberg agreeing to new contracts at their current schools.'
ESPN analyst and former NBA coach Flip Saunders has turned down a job offer from the Minnesota Golden Gophers to be their next head coach, a source told ESPN.com's Andy Katz on Saturday.
Guess that "home run" hire everyone said they had lined up didn't materialize.
Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.
Just because your mascot can spin his head around and you serve beer at football games, that does not make you special.
Maybe it's time to give Brian Ellerbe a call?

And do you think that after today, their other rumored target Buzz Williams, is going to leave Marquette?
They can ask, but that would make them 0-5
Williams has had his problems at Marquette with the administration, but I doubt he'd go to Minnesota.
Minnesota is going to have a really hard time getting a name coach without building the practice facility.
They're just throwing out names to distract the press while they negotiate with Phil Jackson.
They've had the same train wreck formula when hiring for their football program.
Looking back on it if UK hadn't fired Tubby Smith for winning ONLY ONE National Championship the Gophers wouldn't have gotten a coach of that quality 6 years ago.
I wouldn't be surprised to see the Wichita St coach go there
Rogue Leader= Obese coward who didn't attend MSU and has no college degree
That's who they should be going after. They are wasting their time with guys like Smart and Stevens. Those guys have already turned down multiple offers from much better programs...but Minnesota comes calling and they're going to bolt? Give me a break. Setting your sights high is good but you also have to be reasonable, and it makes you look bad when you keep striking out.
"RCMB: You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainry." - some dude from MgoBlog
At this point, I'm beginning to wonder if Wichita isn't the better job.
Was a losing in the second round of the tourney really a bad season for them?
Do they honestly think they will do better than tubby? Their AD is a fucking idiot.
bingo...up 13 at the half vs. O$U. I would say the WSU coach will be big game hunting soon, and MInny isn't big game
Minnesota should go after the best coach available. Tubby Smith, come on down!
Would be awesome if they did come crawling back to him and he turned them down for Texas Tech.
While I haven't seen them, I imagine Witchita State's facilities are better. Not to mention, there doesn't seem to be much limitation on being able to build a winning team there - just aske OSU.
Tossed it out when they fired Tubby and still think they end up hiring South Dakota State's coach.
Scott Nagy already recruits Minnesota and simply changes the rodent on his ties.
No way Amaker would leave Harvard for Minny.
Tommys wife has a practice in Boston and a nice gig. I doubt he leaves Harvard unless its for big $ which I doubt Minny is willing to give. Otherwise, they would have invested in facilities.
"BIRD IN A CAGE DAWG! BIRD IN A CAGE!!!!1"
You can swing as hard as you want, but if the ball curves foul, it ain't a home run...
My Blood Runs Green.....
Amaker (sarcasm smilie)
Marshall turned down the NC State job last year why would he go to Minny?
If GRR is ever interviewed his title will be "All-Purpose Expert"
Fine, I'll do it.
tRCMB - Visit at your own risk of being disgusted.
It's kind of sad Northwestern handled things much better. They didn't fire Carmody until they had an idea they could get who they wanted.
Best decision would have been to do nothing of course.
