650 career assists - over or under?
(for reference, Kalin and Neitzel ended their careers in the high 500s. Mateen had 816)
Under. He's not a PG.
Day Day finished with 425, despite having only 31 his freshman year.
35 games a year * 4years = 140 career games.
650/140 = 4.6 assists a game.
You might be right (I hope you are), but that is a ton of assists and I'm not sure he'll have the ball that much to get there. Again, hope I'm wrong.

Under by about 250
He's the type of player who is going to rack up a ton of assists regardless of where he plays. He's got a gift for finding players in a good position to score.

Under. If we get Parker he won't start until his junior season at the earliest.
Doesn't matter how many minutes at PG or SG he gets, he'll avg about 5 per game, maybe more, times 30 games per year times 4 yrs. Thats about 600. Figuring conservatively. IMO he's the best passer we've had since Magic.

Its five o'clock somewhere.
Parker will play the four.
What does that have to do with Valentine starting at point or on the wing?
He's not going to take appling Dawson or Harris minutes during crunch time. right now we move Dawson to the 4 when Parker gets here Dawson will stay at the 3
He's a great player but 650 is a best case scenario. No upside so you have to bet the under. I think he will absolutely be an all-B1G performer eventually.
650 is pushing it. Mateen was another level, Skiles is at 645, that's about Valentine's ceiling. Lucious could have gone way above Neitzel on this list (4th at 582), if he would have continued to play, and played well.
At the end of the day, if Valentine has 4 relatively healthy years, he'll be somewhere between 450 and 650, putting him comfortably in the top 10 all-time for Spartans.
Under. I'd set the O/U at about 475.
Edit: actually figuring in chances of a big injury, some reason to transfer, etc., better set the O/U closer to 400 even.

We already know he can pass like a fool. I want to see him develop a consistent jumper.

People don't realize the caliber of junior and senior seasons that Denzel is going to have. Most are assuming a slow, gradual progression from him. That's not what's going to happen. His talent level, athleticism.for body.type and IQ are just way too high. As his confidence and comfort level rise, those last two years are going to be Day Day v.2012 type seasons with a little less scoring and rebounds, but more assists, steals and just as many, if not more, smart, heady and timely plays.
I'll take the over assuming he stays all 4 years. He seems to know where everyone is on the court and rotates it accordingly. He will get his shot at point but we will see if he ends there.
He is going to be a great Spartan when it is all said and done. I was at the game today and I know he has worked on his athleticism but his put back two handed jam off of a missed shot caught me way off guard, that was filthy. Then he comes down and tosses a perfect no look pass to a wide open Costello, those are the type of dimes this kid will rack up plenty of during his career. Going to be fun 4 years

Put me down for the OVER (650+). I think when he's done, Denzel Valentine will have close to 700 assists.
Yep. Denzel is just sick. People are still underestimating him but that's ok, we will all enjoy his career, that much I know. Today's line--5 assists and 1 turnover (Appling had 4 and 3). That was in 22 minutes. This is how he plays game after game after game. It never waivers. Five assists in a game for Denzel is just a walk in the park, like Day Day and rebounds. Its just what he does. And he WILL hit that 3 point jumper with consistency. I've seen it many times. We are going to see some of the sickest alley oops this year that we've ever seen in a Spartan uniform, to guys like Payne, Dawson, Harris.
Well, we've got nothing but scrubs for the next few games. We'll be blowing out a lot of people so it would be good for him to work on his J in game situations, so that way, in big games, he won't be such a liability in that department.
Can't get better at something by avoiding it.
I'll go over. That's based on what I've seen, and the likelihood he'll stay for 4 years with real growth (physical & mental).
Damn fine basketball player.
Thank you, Denicos.
I realize its too early in the season to have meaningful statistics, but I think the stats on assists are already telling. Appling has 11 assists and 6 turnovers, and his A/T ratio is 1.83. Valentine has 10 assists on 4 turnovers, A/T ratio is 2.5. Appling has played 101 minutes. Valentine just 70. With Valentine, its like having an extra PG in the game. It will be fun to follow this.
Valentine is getting the look at backup PG with Trice out, but when Trice comes back does he continue to get those minutes? If so, does that mean Trice sits, or play more of the 2? I think he is a phenomenal passer with a great talent to find he open man, but I just don't know that he will get enough minutes these first two years to put up numbers like that. I take the under with the hope that he really gets going and hits the over.
