Folks have been saying for years that he would be special. I never saw the kid play in high school; I live 2,000 miles away. But I was doubtful.
I was wrong. The kid is going to be amazing.
20 something turnovers or not. I saw some deep Izzo smiles at different junctures during this game and others, early this season that tells me Izzo knows he has the horses in the barn to beat anybody.
With Valentine up top, and Appling, Dawson, Harris playing off him making that feed off the keyhole , look the hell out.
All the pieces are here, gentlemen, they truly are

Yep and Payne splitting time with Nix. No real holes in this team. Just need to keep developing and get healthy.
It's a town full of losers. I'm pulling out of here to win!
The inside guys just need to be solid, and grab rebounds. That alone is all that they need to do with the other weapons on hand.
I think they are capable of doing what needs to be done.
Payne has a pleasant habit of generally stepping up the brighter the lights.
Valentine impresses me more( from the standpoint of what I envision him capable of doing) than anybody that has been brought in here in a long time.
This kid is better than people even think he is, if that makes sense.
I'm shocked how good he is. I caught a couple of his high school games but it was against weak competition and couldn't picture him against D-1 athletes. I always thought he was being overrated because he was from Lansing. Not the case at all. He's amazing. Future all-American.
That's exactly what I thought - that folks were exaggerating his skills because he is a local kid and because of who his father is.
Have been saying this for a couple of years. He is special. He is the type of player that only comes around so often and wins championships.
He reminds me of a taller cleaves. He is tough and a quarterback and a winner. He makes people around him better. He was throwing Ally oops tonight to Payne and Dawson reminiscent of how cleaves used to throw them to Hudson and Peterson.
Look at how successful he was at sexton. Back to back championships like draymond green. He is a winner. He will learn how to compete at this level and continue to get better and mor importantly make his team better.
Some of the reason I think he played so well tonight was that he is used to playing against the Oakland players and was confident. Once he gets some more games and experience under his belt he will become a more confident and consistent player overall.
Watched a couple of his playoff games from last year and was really impressed. Not surprised he's doing well. It's always a surprise to see any player make those seeing-eye passes though!
Draymond Green, Magic Johnson, and Oscar Robertson are the only players to have two triple-doubles in the NCAA Tournament.
Valentine's mistakes are freshman mistakes. Extremely frustrating but ones you can live with at this point. He won't make those same mistakes as often in February.
He may end up being a PG eventually but right now he's a wing player and a damn good one.
9 of the turnovers came from Dawson and Byrd.
Valentine is a sneaky good effective rebounder as well. When he comes down with the ball he is effective making that solid first pass, especially with numbers.
I might take flack for this, but this kid is VERY soon going to become a poor man's you damn well know who. Actually a hair better shooter at the same juncture
He's been better on the glass than I expected. One of the reasons I like him playing on the wing.
Not sure why people undervalue Lansing players either. The greater Lansing area produces a lot of talent and the area teams always do well in the state tournament.
Valentine is the best player to come out of Lansing in a long time. Probably in at least 12 years (Taylor) and when it is all said and done much longer as I think he is better.
He kind of reminds me of Greivis Vasquez
Huh. That's interesting. I can kind of see it.
Harris going down will actually help izzo see who he will put in the rotation once he gets back.
So far Byrd has shown nothing. I think the rotation will be :
Harris, appling, nix, Payne, Dawson, valentine, trice, Kearney, and gauna.
Um, Denzel Valentine is NOT a bitch.
tRCMB - Visit at your own risk of being disgusted.
I think Costello is going to be a bigger rotation factor than Gauna before long.
Costello can play.
??? There are major holes in this team. Payne and nix are not elite bigs and the team itself continues to have major turnover problems. Uconn was a pathetically weak team down low and they dominated us in many ways. This teams success will ride on Appling and the success of our big men, which to this point continues to be wildly inconsistent
Why would gauna be in the rotation over Byrd when ever time he touches the ball it's a turnover?
Payne and Nix are proven players, they will be fine. Our success will ride on Appling, Harris, and Dawson. Payne and Nix do not need to be superstars, just solid players (as they were last year).
We are a better team with only 1 of Payne or Nix on the floor at a time with 4 guards.
Ths team has wings and guards that border on very elite as a group.
All Payne, Nix and likely Costello need to do is be solid, board, and play hard.
We have enough at 1,2,3 and four to win it all.
You clearly smoke as much crack as you do cock.
Completely agree. I like Dawson at the 4, he is so tough to guard around the basket.
This team will be elite by the middle of January. The players just need more time to form chemistry together and learn each others tendencies, especially Payne and nix they aren't used to playing with another big that likes to be in the post .
